Are Seattle any good?

.....................

Not really, but they are in the middle of their season and should be sharper than our players, and it showed for the first twenty minutes, when they had six shots at goal before we mustered our first chance.

So al in all, I would not knock our performance.

Fair enough. Apparently they're second in the 'roster' so I assume they're playing some pretty good 'soccer'. And it's probably fair to say the MLS is improving every year.

After watching an interview with Fergie before the game they were talking about how Seattle have a traditon of their fans marching to the stadium - about 40,000 which made me assume this would be much sterner test than N.E.R obviously that was not the case.

Anyone know anything about Chicago Fire - the gap between the next game and the last is alot shorter so fatigue and travel might start to become an issue

Calm down sonny, you beat a bunch of Starbucks waiters 7-0
Hardly cause for the rest of the premiership to start papping their pants

It is hard to say. We were certainly not looking this good after two games this time last year.

I haven't played the Vancouver Whitecaps. In fact, I've never been to Vancouver. I have been to Toronto twice though

Ah I see, so when you write you for united it's fine but when I write you for City it's not.
I'll rephrase it. Didn't the team you claim to support narrowly beat the vancouver whitecaps by a 1 goal margin? What's that all aboot?

Why whenever any poster discusses their team beating some inferior opposition in a pre-season friendly does some tw @t feel the need to post this kind of reply? Idiocy at its finest.

"Are Seattle any good?"

It's all relative really... they are currently lying 2nd in the Western division of the MSL, so they are one of the better US teams - they were not really as bad as the scoreline might suggest, but were just broken in the end by a team who are arguably the 2nd best team in the world right now.

"(I would)... assume this would be much sterner test than N.E.R obviously that was not the case"

It may seem "obvious", but as I said, the scoreline is misleading; Seattle were clearly a better team than the Revolution and gave our defence a much sterner test.

thanks to those of you who recognize and appreciate what we've got going on in seattle,

the team you saw in the first half is our first choice. we're currently competing in 3 competitions, so obviously weren't going to play the whole match competitively. in fact, most of the more knowledgeable and dedicated supporters, myself included, believe that the mid season friendlies or more of a hinderance than anything. imagine if you team had to squeeze a friendly between important league, cup, and european competitions. the players, fans, and certainly the manager would not be happy to say the least. it's a cash grab and i supposed the club and league could use it. but if you ask me, trophies > friendlies. its not like the money we got from that match will reduce ticket prices next year is it?

Anyway, more than half of the guys you saw in the second half have only played reserve matches this year or cup matches against lower-league opposition. One player, Mrisho Ngassa, is a trialist and has only trained with us for the past few days. although a wonderful opportunity for the young kids, i think it was a cheeky move from Sigi, our manager, to give one to our front office and prove the relevance of friendlies.

a few other points:

-we usually limit the stadium to the lower bowl for league games, but still average 36k attendance. last i saw that would rank in the top 10 in the top flight in england

-the level support you witnessed is the norm and in my opinion a bit subdued compared to league matches (although obviously louder because of the sheer numbers). you definitely tested us with the pasting you gave us but i was not at all surprised by our energy and encrouagement until the final whistle.

-wayne rooney makes more money in two weeks than all 11 sounders who finished the game do in a year

-whoever said the bit about beating a bunch of starbucks employees is a bigot and an idiot (cheers those who've called him out). not sure what the guy who said we're second in the 'roster' was bleating about. roster = squad.

thanks again to those of you with some humility and a general interest in the game.

To clarify the point about rooneys wages, I meant the combined wages of all 11 sounders
