thats cos we offered 250,000 the first time and then went in with an improved offer of 250,001

I think the fact we can't even throw a b-string team together is worrying especially as it couldn't even beat Stocksbridge, we are still quite a way off promotion material.
We barely have a first team and there's no time for procrastination

I'm going to have to disagree there Stateside, we know we need 4 more players, as do Meggy and MM. But whenever we play the likes of Stocksbridge in Pre-season, we always play with mostly kids, in fact last pre-season we sent 2 different teams mainly kids and reserves to play on the same night!

There is no reserve team this year so we need to keep the main squad to around 20 - 22 pro's maximum.

Stateside is correct in that if we go into the season with our current squad then we will be nowhere near promotion.

We need to pick our players and get them signed immediately rather than bidding low and alerting bigger clubs.

Of course, and we had a larger squad last season, What I'm getting at is we're still a bit thin and only as strong as our weakest players. Sure most of those kids wont be seeing much first team action if at all but we don't have a squad close to 20 solid pro's do we?

This is what worries me, you can't seriously think what we have can challenge for promotion? the clocks ticking and I'm starting to chew my nails

Exactly madsteve
I know Meggys trying, but it sounds like he's throwing pennies at peoples feet so of course nothings happening.
And with the lack of money most clubs have in this division it's understandable they'll hold out for the highest bidder. We don't have time to muck about, we need to get in there, offer the right money and take our man and get him gelling with the squad, it's about time WE gave ourselves an advantage for once...just for once. It's incredibly frustrating when we now how the money and capability to do these things and we still do not..

We currently have 20 professionals in the 1st team, that's 3 keepers, 8 defenders, 7 midfielders and 2 strikers, that's not including the fringe kids like young Palmer, Modest and Cecil.

We need 2 strikers, a winger and a CB, that's give us 2 natural RB's, 4 CB's 2 LB's 5 CM (inc JOC) and 3 wingers and 4 up front to choose from.

I think 24 is more than enough to be fair plus possible fringe kids to do a job.

Hope you're right Ginger..
It isn't looking too pretty for me right now.. but in fairness we have a couple of weeks left. we just need to act NOW!

posted on 21/7/11

Different day, same conversation. YES we're 3-4 players short. Yes, there's only two weeks to go. We know we're a bit thin on numbers. GM and MM know we're thin on numbers.
What we need to hope is that we don't start paying silly money for players who at the start of the summer we thought wouldn't be good enough (£500k for ALF, anyone?) just to fill those places.

The squad we have now is no smaller than the squad we had at this stage last season.

This time last season everyone was wetting themselves about having the strongest squad in the division & how we'll pi55 the league!

Hmmmmm......

To be fair, we're all biting our nails right now. We're all accutely aware of the lack of movement on the transfer front and worried that Meggo might start grabbing at straws to fill the gaps! Names are being tossed around like confetti, yet only Meggo & MM know what's truly in the pipeline. The weakness up front is what really worries me. Unlike others, I think 2 more full signings could do it for now with a couple of last minute loans which are probably in the pipeline anyway! (he writes, while crossing his fingers and toes!!) I still feel Meggo got over-confident about the Mellor situation and thus jumped the gun when releasing Heffers. At least we can all take comfort from the 20+ goals Morrison has promised us this season

We forget that Sheffeild Wednesday is a passion to us & a business to MM offering low first offers & negotiating upwards is standard buying practise in all businesses. We will see a few signing just before the season starts & they will take a few games to gel with the other players them it's top top top of the league............ or alot of you will say told ya so!

If he wasn't in the last year of his contract I'd say £500k is about right. If a player is good I don't think the division he plays in should put that much of a ceiling on his value. Le Fondre has scored bags of goals for teams that haven't even been promotoed - not much more he could do than he has..
