Torres is horrible for not scoring.
reminded me of the great danes against john barnes all those years ago
In terms of reflexes he's already 'world class' in that department. His distribution is generally excellent also. When he matures and improves on his crossing, which he already has - other than the Newcastle game he's been very solid since January - we will have the most complete goalkeeper in the game.

Don't think any keeper in the world would have saved that free-kick tbh. Mata was due a free-kick goal vs him as well after De Geas amazing free-kick save from Mata in the last minute of the 3-3 last season.
De gea was immense yesterday once again just like he was last season, your keepers have had stormers vs us in recent years, VDS in the CL quarters was unreal as well
Hippo, very harsh blaming him for the free-kick. Mata could literally not have hit that better.

That free kick was going in. Nothing he was ever going to do about it.
Rubbish, hippo. I've already explained on here that the free kick was a devilish one from about 20 yards that was hit hard and swerved from the outside of the post back into the goal. It was a great strike. Most goalkeepers take a shuffle to the side of their wall to gain some momentum. Had the free kick been from further out then it would have been an error, however, this is a different case and I'm willing to give Mata the credit for a superb strike. It certainly wasn't a mistake.
De Gea was flawless from January to August when he made an error which didn't cost us - like all keepers do from time to time - for our manager to get all excited at the prospect of some more pointless rotation that unsettles the team. Lone behold, De Gea hasn't looked as assured since being taken out of the team. To suggest that he hasn't improved is laughable.
Tbf to him, Mata couldnt have hit that freekick any sweeter.
His view was 100% blocked, it was quick and it was actually top corner. De Gea will learn from that
Better for it to happen in a game we eventually won than for it to cost us. NOw for every future free kick, he will know not to leave his side open
I think the most worrying thing about the freekick for me was rooney TBH
It reminded me of the old impetous (sp) rooney and that usually comes from frustration
hope its a one off and nothing is festering
I said this yesterday and Sir Alex echoed my opinion too. De Gea had the last seasons free-kick in his mind. The position was pretty much identical and Mata had hit in the top right hand corner only, only for De Geas world-class save to deny it.
You could see his thought of mind when he took 1 step to his left incase Mata was going to attempt it again. He took a gamble last season and it worked brilliantly, he took 1 again and just didn't work out for him.
Definitely not his fault for not being able to save it.

He is good but needs to learn how to clear a ball
Hippo
De Gea had a very good game yesterday and that free kick really wasn't his fault.
We should stop focusing on something that we'll never know what could have been and instead focus on a great day for De Gea

Are you referring to his kicking? It's strange, because it's generally flawless and usually one of his strengths. But it's been slightly off of late. He, Rio and Evans look as if they're doing their best to give eachother the most difficult pass to deal with.
kagawa - was just about to say the same
kicking is one of degea's strength generally
Hippo
That bad kick was planned because it led to 2 things
1) Torres' first yellow card
2) Cleverley getting a kick to wake him up

Does anybody think Mata aimed left because of the save last year? I had a feeling he would try and outfox De Gea and it worked.
I don't think it was a great game for De Gea either. I'd say it was a good game with one terrific save.
