Dislike CFC?? What on earth are you on about?
Mate, this is a serious matter far greater then bi-partisan football club rivalries. If Arsenal FC made the same complaint, i would be equally as baffled and angry.
There's a LOT of serious racial issues in the football stadium, let alone modern society. What i am angry about is that these serious issues are being clouded over by an Inconspicuous and irrelevant issue like this one.
I think 'cheeky monkey' is quite cute
Exactly. Right now, directing anything at a black person which has the word "monkey" in it is an incredibly stupid thing to do.
"A black person who has no clue its a common british phrase getting called a monkey?"
-----------
Fair enough, Pete. But surely enough time has passed between then and now for someone to have explained that it isn't in fact anything of the sort?
And surely Mikel is enough of a man to accept it for what it is?

Can you see why Mikel got offended?
--------------
Peter, you are not getting my point.
I can FULLY understand why Mikel got offended.
What i cannot understand is why Chelsea FC have decide to press this matter forwards. Do they really also think that the term "Cheeky Monkey" is racist towards Mikel??
dot...so do i...i call the bear a cheeky monkey all the time...
poor kid must be soooo confused...

Gunnerthru. I know, I remember the gasp when I referred to one of the girls working in the training dept as "my little training monkey". Though her immediate resonse of "but I have short arms!" had me in tears......
In the UK we all called everyone the same. Maintenence monkey, ops monkey, planning monkey. It just isn't quite the same outside the UK!
As someone said before, this is a lot of conjecture. I just hope this isn't what it's all been about though, otherwise it's going to be a bit ridiculous.
A black person who has no clue its a common british phrase getting called a monkey?
-----------------------------
Are there no British staff at Chelsea who could have informed them???
I can't believe for a second that the ref was actually being racist.
That is again assuming that was what was actually said.
As far as i'm concerned, as soon as Mikel raised his concern, someone in CFC should have had a chat with him and reassured him that the phrase is a completely harmless one and in no way intended to offend him.
I hope this is true.
Chelsea would be forever known as the straw clutchers.
- 'IF' cheeky monkey is the term that's been said then this is hilarious! Mikel would find it offensive, he's not gone through the education system where on top of my head every child has been called it at least once and on top of it all it's a term everyone in this country knows is not racist.
Mikel has every right to feel attacked but for Chelsea to push this forward [if that is the term they're aggrieved about] just makes them look bitter.

Can we also put this “foreign player” defence to bed please.
Each and every PL club has a media relations department and every player is given guidance courses on handling the media. These courses include etiquette training and players are advised what is deemed acceptable, which also helps to protect clubs from potential embarrassment.
To suggest that a Mikel who has been at CFC for a number of years would not have received media training, and would somehow be unable to understand what was allegedly said to him is inconceivable.
Chelsea would be forever known as the straw clutchers
And CL winners

Biglaa, I didnt know that and to be honest I don't believe that Mikel know it either. He must feel to be abused.
And for completeness, the other term Clattenburg is allegedly used to Mata is "Spanish tw_t".
I saw the footage yesterday, and i cannot make it out.

'Spanish twát' is much more discriminatory than 'cheeky monkey'

And it's conceivable to think that the term "cheeky monkey" would come up during Media training?
