I think everybody but the opposition are concerned with our defense.

hmm i have my doubts whether this side can be as successful as the 04-08 side as they were built to grind their way to winning trophies. the strength of the midfield was key to that very successful defence

Still in transition. Not a huge worry at the moment.

Terry was just as culpable v Shaktar...

we are generally tighter if he plays though...it's this feeding out from the back by Cech to CB's at times that gets us in hot water...

no need...it's just risky

Someone in defence needs to become a leader when Terry's not playing and communicate. The way things are currently is like Luiz and Cahill aren't even talking. The system we use can be very effective. It's very similar to City's last season who used there full backs for width, while not really have a tempo setter in the midfield 2. We can make it work, just need time

No - agreed

but we can be a bit choosy where when & who we distribute to...the full backs would be a better option generally...

That rolled out pass to Romeu last night was ridiculous

Yes it was

That rolled out pass to Romeu last night was ridiculous

At times Cech has to take a risk with his distribution with this new style, because opposition teams push up knowing it's inevitable we will play it short.

The goal wasn't inevitable after the pass was made though, the goal was inevitable when Romeu showed a lack of positional awareness and tried to turn forward and into 3 United players.

He had 4 options, back to Cech again, to either CB (who were, as always, split) or the one he took. Only one would result in a goal. Romeu's fault far more than Cech IMO.

Not really worried about our defense. It is still a work in progress and the tactical changes have resulted in a more open back. Mistakes will happen and is part of the learning process. As long as we learn from those mistakes and progress then I am fine with it. I would not change anything right now. Just keep improving and blending in more of our squad players in. It will improve our attacking options and tactics later in the season.

The new system gives freedom to the front 4. That needs to be balanced with the other 6 being positionaly responsible. Terry, Cole, Branna & Lamps are used to us having 3 central midfielders which allowed our full backs plenty of opportunity to attack & lamps was free to get up the pitch as there was always sufficient cover.
luiz is positionally a nightmare, Lamps in his last season with us & 34 years old, too old to learn a new position. Rameires isnt playing his natural position. RDM doesnt seem to rate Romeu. I worry every time Luiz strides forward with the ball, Mikel has the ball in front of our defence & when someone runs at pace at Luiz or Branna in the penalty box. We have conceded far too many goals, but agree the club is in transition so there are gonna be setbacks

There's also the pass back to Cech, if he felt Cahill/Luiz were not an option.

Turning straight into 3 United players can't be the 'right thing'!
