I want to cancel my payments at the bank but I was warned by other people that cancelling a direct debit wouldn't go down well and could affect credit rating etc.

Long story short with my situation...

Three renewed an already cancelled sim contract, without telling me.

I've moved onto GiffGaff, seems to work fairly differently than other companies and are way cheaper.

Couldn't bring myself to get a 24 month contract, my plan

Buy Google Nexus 4 unlocked (from Google not a phone shop!)

Buy a sim only deal separately from GiffGaff, works better as there's much less policies involved, just topping up. If you don't want the service, then don't top up anymore.

Buy mobiles unlocked to save money and have more freedom, think about it this way.

I buy a smartphone unlocked for £279

I get a sim only contract for £12 a month with GiffGaff

2 years later I sell the phone for something better at £150 on eBay.

In total I have spent £417 on a top end smartphone over 2 years which equals...

£17.38 a month. Of course the cost varies on how much the phone drops in price over time but this is way cheaper and you have the freedom to switch to another provider or change your phone whenever.

DO NOT CANCEL A DIRECT DEBIT!!!!

this is only cancelling your payment method! if your changing companies ask for a PAC code this will close the account with the company you leave when the number is transferred to your newco!
