How can the Police condemn sectarianism on the Friday night and then on the Saturday do nothing about it? Let's be honest, the Police, the SFA and the media are scared to make example of the bigots. Old Firm fans always think there is a conspiracy theory, so it will just open a can of worms. As for docking points that just simply will not work.
Strathclyde Police are just after more investment while the BBC know that the negative side of the Old Firm will bring in an audience, as they dare not show either of the Old Firm in a positive light for fear of of claims of prejudice.
The clubs ARE doing a lot to tackle this, and the fans are slowly outnumbering the bigots and uneducated but we need to be standing together and standing up for ourselves because there are a lot of us out here that can and do watch our teams WITHOUT incident
Let's not fool ourselves.
Old Firm days means too many idiots drinking too much beer, doing too many things they shouldn't and leaving the football behind and out comes the hatred whether its religious, political or about nationality.
The football usually goes out the window which is shame.
That said, I do think the Old Firms are a lot tamer now than they were 10 years ago. I'm a relatively young Old Firm fan so only have experience of the fixture over the last decade or so.

I think docking points would work but i'd hope it would never come to that.
I think banning fans, as has been done this season for Rangers will work. I hope so anyway.
Although, there will always be those who are defiant.
Those who don't recognise authority and have no respect for others.

But the problem is bigots are raising bigots.
How do we eradicate it?
Punishment is the only way to break the cycle I think.
The new song "We're Glasgow Rangers, we'll sing what we like" just makes me cringe.
when you see young 'uns all playing together in their old firm tops you get the feeling that things are changing for the better
But the moment those same kids are seen in their tops with their parents wearing the same tops too many people just look at them and see ill-educated bigots, especially if they're wearing the opposing teams' to theirs.
Establisment is right, punishment IS the only way to break the cycle, but just far to many old firm fans tarred with the wrong brush

Ban the fans first. If that doesn't work points deduction.
In the first instance, fans should be banned not the players or club directly. If that fails, a more serious punishment of points deductions is the way forward.
Points deduction will not work for various reasons. If some people are that psychotic to send football players bullets, then it is not beyond the realms of possibility for people to sing bigoted songs to get the other team deducted points. In addition, how many points do you deduct? Do the clubs deserve to be punished for a small minorities of fans? As football fans we go out and watch the game to support our club and we want to see them win, surely it is unfair on the rest of us.
The second a point is deducted - the problem will evaporate.
I think it would work.
I hope it doesn't come to that.
But should us decent fans and the club itself really suffer for such knuckle draggers?
Definitely not but I think it would work.
I think that even the slightest suggestion of points deductions by UEFA or SPL or whoever would have an impact.
UEFA, the SPL would not have the balls.
