0-152 doesn't say much for India's premier spinner, Raina bowled better and he's a part timer, I think the only reason why Singh is in the team is because he bats a bit.
Give the guy a break. He is a world class spinner. As an England fan,I am extremely worried about him.He willl come good I think. One bad match doesnt make him a bad bowler. His figures were 2/189 in the first Test against SA and he turned it around in the 2nd Test taking 7 wickets for 80 runs in the match. He is a slow starter. But it would be foolish to write him off after just one bad match.
As an England fan,all I can say is I am worried about our batsmen facing Harby.
You cant take 400 Test being a leg straighter. He deserves more credit than what he is getting. And I dont think he bowled anywhere near as badly as his figures suggest. He was luckless at times.
His record away from the sub continent is pretty poor to say the least..
I cant understand how he as 400 wickets.. must been some very poor batting line ups..
Very few spin bowlers do well at Lords these days.
Ever since his doosra became illegal in 2004 he has been an average run of the mill spinner who is in the team cos he can bat. Like the OP said he is nothing more than a right hand version of Ashley Giles bowling a consistent negative line.
at least giles could contain. his strike rate was appaling, right up there at 80, but his economy rate was under 4 an over. he knew his limitations, and he did a job, plugging up an end to give the seamers a break.
i think singh is a betterh spinner than giles, but to call him anything more than a decent spinner is overstating his ability.

Get your facts right bud, He started bowling the doosra in 2006 against Sri Lanka. He came back from an injury then and he gave an interview in which he stated that he had developed a "mystery ball".
And the other problem with your statement is that he is still allowed to bowl his doosra. He was NEVER banned.
The only reason he doesn't bowl the doosra is because he has a good top spinner and his doosra never spun much anyways. He uses the top spinner very well against left handers. The only issue I have with him is his line of attack and him bowling long spells from around the wicket to right handers.

Get my facts rights? This is what it states in wikipedia:
"Harbhajan Singh The doosra of Indian bowler Harbhajan Singh was the subject of an official report by match referee Chris Broad, on-field umpires Aleem Dar and Mark Benson, and TV umpire Mahbubur Rahman after the second Test between India and Bangladesh at Chittagong in December 2004. It was reported that his arm is straightened by angles of up to 10 degrees, 5 degrees within the ICC tolerance levels.[9]"
He had to remodel his illegal delivery and since then he has looked ordinary.
"It was reported that his arm is straightened by angles of up to 10 degrees, 5 degrees within the ICC tolerance levels.[9]"
So why did he need to change it?
