Dodgy knees? You lot dont have a clue about his injury, hes not had another injury in his time here other than his cartilage tear. Was out for 4 months but his comeback was put back because of the bad weather in the winter. Hes worth every penny, but if you dont want him......
Lacy - 'you lot' ; bit of a sweeping statement? There is an argument that your chairman perhaps doesn't have 'a clue' if he doesn't feel he has received a bid 'anywhere near the players value'
And for, not the first time, to clarify, the LCFC fans don't have any choice in whether we sign him or not.
From what I have seen from both sets of fans, which may by no means be a mass consensus, they just want it put to bed now.
Perhaps comparing him to the disaster of our last £5m striker is a little radical, but I have to be honest, I am completely impassive about the situation now. If he was to stay at Bristol, sign a new contract for Bristol, move to Leicester or move to Timbuktu, my reaction of 'oh okay' would be the same.
I have to agree that he isn't worth the money, how can someone who's only ever played at this level, who's just come back from a serious injury with only a year left on his contract possibly be worth £5m +.
Your board are deluded, your fans are deluded and if we pay that for him then so are we!!
I don't know why your board don't just put him in a position where he has to decide, in other words accept a bid and give him the choice to leave or sign a new contract because the option of staying and leaving for nothing isn't an option!!
Why are 'you lot' so desperate for him to prolong leaving anyway, at some point he'll be off to a bigger and better club so why delay the inevitable, why not cash in and use the money to improve your squad?
Is it because 'you people' (that's what we were referred to as on another thread) are that deluded that you think he can help you get into the PL
Z, sick and tired of hearing about Maynard, the sooner we buy another striker he better !!!
Can't see why either set of fans are priming their handbags. As KTF1 says, LCFC fans have no say in signing him. Equally, BCFC fans have no say in selling him. So all the willie-waving is a bit redundant.
One point I don't think anyone has been making explicitly, though some have hinted at it, is if we do buy Maynard, won't he be behaving in exactly the same way at our club in a couple of years' time?

One question I posed to myself this afternoon, perhaps one a little redundant and of no interest to fellow Foxes and Robins - But if, say for arguments sake, Maynard had a contract with BCFC running until 2013 and scored 15 to 20 goals this year for Bristol, would a prospective club looking to purchase him in the Summer of 2012, value him at any more than what is rumoured to have been the latest offer (somewhere between £5m and £6m)?? I doubt it. There are proven Premiership strikers going for less than this as well as those on a Bosman.
I know silly insults have been thrown at others who have suggested this (such as 'ret*rd', etc), but is Maynard (not based on potential but on actually proven ability) that much/or any bette than Billy Sharp for example. This isn't me saying sharp is or isn't a superstar (although I have pointed out recently that he has a better record over recent seasons at this level that our previous main striker [Fryatt] and potential one [Maynard]), but more a reality check on the Maynard deal.
In the Mercury today, it is claimed we have more than one pie with Sven's fingers in; concerning strikers (although bring on the sexual innuendos!).
I wonder who they are, perhaps a punt on a lower division striker like Wright-Phillips, or a loan from a Prem outfit like Cox, or a player from one of the European leagues (I wonder if with the lure of possible promotion, we could attract a striker from the Bundesliga for example)
There's always this gulf between opinions at the prospective selling and buying clubs. Our fans were just as adamant about the value of Fryatt when a couple of Prem teams were struggling to find an extra striker two seasons back. They were taking several million. Many were saying £5m+.
In the end (a year later), Fryatt went for £1.2m. A lot of fans were upset, but I think we have to assume that no one was offering any more than that, or we'd have taken it. So one of the questions we have to ask is: does Maynard look five times as convincing as Fyatt?
Maynard does have one clear advantage over Fryatt – he has had one 20-goal season in the Championship (which Fryatt has yet to achieve). But that's about all. In his only other full (ie uninjured) season, at this level he scored 11, which is OK but not spectacular. Last season he played too few games to make an extrapolation worthwhile.
Fryatt is water under the bridge. We had enough heated discussions about him while he was with us, so I'm not trying to start another one. But I don't see any harm in using his price tag as some kind of yardstick for a valuation on Maynard.
Actually Fatfox and others, you're wrong. Sven rings me up to okay every transfer that the clubs do, and i've told him to wait and see if we can't get someone a bit cheaper. At worst, i've recommended £3m, Darius Vassell and a box seat at the Madrid game. Who could say no?
For £5m we could get in a couple off £2m players and still have some left over for high wages.
Time to tell BCFC to shove it up their jacksies. I fear for them holding on to a player who clearly doesn't want to sign for them any more than he wants to sign for us.
Take that £5 Mill, offer John Carew a bumper 1 year deal.
Jobs a good'un.
