I've got to agree with that, this is a football forum where we come to talk about football, yes, there is a lot of tragic things in the world that unfortunately happen for unknown reasons but this is not the place to discuss them.

Nothing wrong in discussing both.

this is a football forum guys, an spl one at that, enough doom n gloom here without bringing massacres, etc into it

I discussed this yeasterday with my flatmate.

He said there should have been a minutes silence before the games to mark the incident.

I'm not sure it is a good idea. People are killed everyday, we seem to pick and choose randomly which ones we remember before football games.

As far as I'm aware the tragic events of Norway have nothing to do with football so how does it put things into perspective?

It's not about that mate. I think that every human being on here will be upset about what happened. But if I want to discuss current affairs or politics or whatever online, I'll go to a forum that is relevant to the subject I wish to discuss, I come here to talk about football and only football, it's just my view, maybe I'm wrong, idk

id have to agree with u there. Without speaking ill of the dead or coming across the wrong way, minute silences, armbands etc should be kept for people who have passed that were involved in the game in some capacity. Massacres, etc should be recognised by governments and councils who should arrange tributes to these people killed.

For me football (watching or playing) is an escape from the events of the world.

We should try to leave minutes silences and minutes applause to footballing people who have died.

There are exceptional circumstances though.

It's tragic, and so is the 5 dead in Texas and the dozens killed in China in the Bullet train collision and i coul;d go on and on but they are nothing to do with football,

Please don't cheapen those events or the lives taken in them by discussing it on a football forum

even then, id feel a minutes applause for these footballing people is more of a tribute than silence. after all, these people have worked in the game to hear the fans cheer them. that to me is more fitting

i agree. With the murder rate in west scotland we could have minute silences at kick off, half time n full time in every game played for the amount of people killed on our streets that week. But its place isnt at the football

I couldn't agree more

As much as it was a terrible thing to happen having a minutes silence is inapropriate i believe. Lets face it, that amount of people killed on that scale is a common occurrence in the likes of Africa and other third world countries on a regular basis. I mean, a million were slaughtered in Rwanda and I dont recall everyone rushing to have a minutes silence then.
