This article will be pulled shortly, the debate period for WUM filter is over. We have read these articles too many times now. It is part of the site and has good and bad aspects.
As Admins it has for us been 90% good and has improved the quality of debate, time on site and visitor levels. Our complaints have dropped 4 fold.
People can chose whether or not to use it and people more compelled to think up more measured answers during a debate as opposed to petty insults. It is here to stay but I am 100% sure not everyone likes it.
Admin1,
Fair response, its your trainset after all.
I'm not having a pop at the site, just voicing concerns over how frequent the filter seems to be being used, the old 'bandwagon' may be being jumped on too easily.
No problem. It is our train-set but our members would leave if we didn't listen or take note of concerns.
Most members don't use the filter and our most filtered member who isn't banned has bought about 20 entries into the list. The filter has saved these members from being banned outright. There are typically about 8000 guests at lunch-time who view the site without signing in so the quality of a thread and content is also important.
Only the 'filtered' moan about the filter
People with long usernames and poor chat seem to be the most foltered, eh Admin me ol' chum which unfortunately leaves you - Rooneysnewcomb oh yeah and before you ask, Rambo used to be my cousin. (U8591) - in the litshist.

There are indeed correlations. Often the complaints about the filter are indeed a who's who of the most complained about and most filtered members. I am sure the OP isn't in that category though.
Hasn't made much of a difference to be honest
Baader,
If people choose to filter then I believe in the long run that will be their loss, free debate however it is positioned is much healthier than one viewpoint.
Most grown up people can choose to ignore the words from other people but only after you have heard them to know whether in fact they are worthy of dismissal is healthy.
"I am sure the OP isn't in that category though. "
articles about the filter are boring...that is all!
As operators of the site we have more of an interested in decent debate than free debate, if free debate consists of a disproportionate amount of insults. People are always, if they chose, able to log out and read the site and after a few weeks decide on whether they wish to unfilter certain members. The filter was always about allowing people to customise their experience of the site and to be afforded a degree of protection on an article that they have taken no doubt considerable time writing.
Seconded. Just gimme a minute admins so I can one-star this badboy before you pull it into the ether.
Admins have the BBC sent you the 9 volume dossier on FudbarAidenMuldoon yet? Can't remember what he's posting as but if you see 'THE BARREL HOOPS' at the bottom of an article it will be garbage.
The wum filter is a good thing. If people filter everyone, it's their loss.
But there is some posters that's just stupid and I for one don't give a rats what those are saying. So go filter!
Wum filter winds up wums.Gotta be a winner then.

Filter is good! For me it's not about the difference of opinion as i welcome them all. BUT....
I filter any user with screen name over 2 lines (and thats me being generous). I dont care about whatever they have to say as i dont think 12-year olds should be allowed on this forum.
I haven't actually used the filter but it seems to me there have been slightly fewer stupid posts since it was brought in.
I take issue with the OP's assumption that the result of the filter would be people only reading things they agree with. Many of us enjoy respectful discussions with people holding different views and with supporters of different teams. We can also enjoy banter without indulging in low-IQ insults. And everyone has seen threads with the potential to be very good destroyed by a couple of people introducing the latter and others taking the bait.
I for one am very glad that the Administrators are taking steps to protect the quality of the debate. All anti-wumming measures (including bans) should be applauded.
