Shakhtar confirmed club president Rinat Akhmetov met with Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali on Saturday to discuss the player's move to Stamford Bridge.

"The parties are very close to the transfer of the footballer to Chelsea FC," Shakhtar said.

The player is expected to have a medical on Sunday morning after flying to the UK.

SNP members are to be given the choice of using the next UK general election or the next Holyrood election as a de facto independence referendum.

The party says its first choice is still for the UK government to agree to a referendum.

But if that is not possible it could use the general election as a vote.

The second option would be to treat the UK election result as a mandate for the party to contest the 2026 Holyrood election as an independence vote.

The UK government said now was a time to focus on "shared challenges" such as the cost of living crisis.

The SNP's national executive committee met on Saturday to agree the motion.

A Conservative think tank has said the welfare system is not providing enough support for people, and has called for the introduction of a "minimum income".

Bright Blue, backed by some senior Tory MPs, says households need a minimum income to meet the cost of living.

Former work and pensions secretary Stephen Crabb said the welfare system has "significant gaps and weaknesses".

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) insists it still "offers a vital safety net to millions of people".

The government is currently considering options to reform the welfare system to encourage more people back into employment.

One option is letting people continue to claim sickness and disability benefits even if they find work, with a source telling the BBC there has to be a "radical rewiring" of how the benefits system operates.

A Health and Disability White Paper detailing the new plans - which are yet to be finalised - is expected later this year.

People across the UK are facing a week of colder weather, with warnings of frost and snow in the coming days.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice from Sunday, affecting parts of northern and central England, northern Scotland, Northern Ireland and north and mid Wales.

A cold snap is expected to continue well into next week.

And there are 89 flood warnings in place in England, with floods having damaged hundreds of homes already.

The Environment Agency has also issued 158 flood alerts, meaning flooding is possible.

But the wetter weather is expected to subside as the cold snap - expected to last until Thursday - sweeps across the UK.

A yellow warning for snow and ice will cover northern Scotland from Sunday afternoon through to Wednesday morning, while the ice warning is in place from Sunday evening until 10:00 GMT on Monday.

There is a further warning for snow across parts of south-east England in place from 02:00 to 08:00 on Monday.

Emma Raducanu made a positive return to court after her injury scare, moving into the second round of the Australian Open with a straight-set win.

On the opening day in Melbourne, the British number one won 6-3 6-2 against Germany's Tamara Korpatsch.

Raducanu, 20, rolled her ankle in Auckland 11 days ago and a beaming smile after sealing victory showed her joy at coming through her first test.

The world number 77 now faces American seventh seed Coco Gauff in round two.

Gauff, 18, is among the favourites to win the women's singles at Melbourne Park and started with a 6-1 6-4 victory over Czech opponent Katerina Siniakova.

The main event saw The Undertaker face Bret Hart for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship, where Undertaker won via disqualification due to interference from Diesel; Hart retained as titles do not change hands on disqualification unless stipulated. The undercard featured the 1996 Royal Rumble match, which Shawn Michaels won by last eliminating Diesel, becoming the second person to win the Royal Rumble match twice, and back-to-back, after Hulk Hogan.

Residents in the Rio Verde Foothills of Scottsdale, Arizona, are going to extreme and uncomfortable measures to procure water as they count the days until the supply runs out.

The city officially stopped transporting water to the unincorporated neighboring area on the first day of the new year.

Scottsdale has blamed the ongoing drought for its decision to shut off tap water for its neighbors. The city says it can no longer afford to sell water to its neighbors and must concentrate instead on conserving water for its own residences.

That critical decision has left between 500 and 700 homes - roughly 1,000 people, many of whom operate businesses and send their children to school within Scottsdale city limits - without a dependable source of water.

A French nun who held the title of being the world's oldest person has died at the age of 118, her retirement home has said.

Lucile Randon, who was born on February 11, 1904, passed away less than a month before she was due to turn 119 having survived catching Covid last year.

Ms Randon, who went by the name Sister Andre after joining a Catholic charitable order in 1944, had taken the title last year after the death of a 119-year-old Japanese woman.

Her death was announced on Tuesday, January 17, by a Toulon nursing home where she had spent the last years of her life on the Mediterranean coast.

The nun, who became blind in her later years, was born more than a decade before the outbreak of the First World War and was known for her enjoyment of cocktails.

Sister Andre, who had worked as a governess in Paris before joining the religious order Daughters of Charity, would begin every day with breakfast before attending morning mass.

She retired from full time work in 1979 at which point she focused on caring for the elderly until the age of 100.

In 2021 she claimed she 'wasn't scared to die' after contracting Covid days before her 116th birthday.

She told France's BFM television: ''No, I wasn't scared because I wasn't scared to die... I'm happy to be with you, but I would wish to be somewhere else join my big brother and my grandfather and my grandmother.'
