True but I think we had a set way of playing then, whic obvisously was forced by the fact Ronaldo was so good so we built the team around him, but we don't seem to have a set way of playing now.

I think Hazard and/or Lucas were more to replace Nani and to accompany Young rather than replace him.

I don't think on the whole Young's performances last season were bad at all and he was certainly one of our best players for the first couple of months of last season but his injury record has been frustrating.

If he ever gets a run in the side we may see the best of him but no-one can deny that he was very good on Saturday and if he can play more like that surely he would be seen as a good signing?

I will probably be cruxified for saying this but I do feel SAF has lost some of his hunger. Which is why we have a lot of sub par players these days. Just putting it out there.

i personally cant see anything wrong with what rooney did.

at the end of the day he is employed by utd, he wasnt happy with what was going on say handed in a transfer request, the same as anyone else would do in their job.

to be fair dunc, a supporter questioning the clubs signings is a bit different to a player publicly questioning whether the players he sits opposite in the dressing room are good enough

------------------------
Giggs and Scholes were ageing, Ronaldo and Tevez had gone and we had made signings like Obertan and Bebe

Rooney had a brain fart because of it but it was quickly sorted

The papers and media just made it a far bigger story than it needed to be, starting with the Sun picking a figure out of thin air and claiming it as Rooney's weekly wage

i agree mate, and i said a few weeks ago im not as worried as i would have been 5 years ago about fergie retiring, and that i think a new face with fresh ideas may be a good thing.

fair enough dunc, but IMO it was totally wrong publicly question whether your teammates are good enough and he made himself look a right <tit> when he had to apologise the next day

Hunger isn't the issue. It is his mind. How he can't see that Scholes or Giggs starting games, weakens the team before a ball is even kicked beggars belief.

I think Hazard and Lucas were lined up to add quality to the squad rather than them be a replacement.

Fergie has always said if there is an exceptional talent available he will try to sign them. And I think that is what he did. Same with RVP and Kagawa as they were available.

And brings me back to the idea of bringing in a player to improve the squad rather than looking at bringing in a player to suit the team.

That is one thing Sir Alex most certainly has not lost

We did have a set way of playing up until this season by using Rooney as a player we built the team around and but for his injury in 2010 i genuinely think we would have won the league and CL but again, injury struck a key player.

We now have RVP and it's entirely possible that if we get Lewandowski which seems to be a strong possibility given the non stop speculation that we abandon the wingers ideology and play the diamond formation with Rooney and Kagawa alternating as our #10 and Lewa and RVP as our strikers with Hernandez and Welbeck as back ups.

As for midfield, we may already have the answer in Cleverley, Jones and Powell for the future with Carrick and Anderson for the now.

he hasnt lost his hunger, he might have lost a few marbles though when it comes to team selection

Its good to see im not been crucified! I just think SAF of 10 years ago wouldnt put up with the performances of late. He seems a bit drunk in his interviews to me.

Buying RVP was a massive show of hunger from the boss.

He wanted instant success and bought the one player in England most likely to give it.

He castrated Arsenal and stopped City or Chelsea from buying a guy that guarantees goals.

It might not make our team very pretty at the moment fitting in all the attacking players but it has hurt the other big teams.

Im serious he's all jokey and happy. He was more serious back in the day, im all for a happy manager but sometimes its not funny.

He said he wouldnt know what to do if we defended like we did against Reading when we played City. SAF of old wouldnt even say that.

Rooney isn't good enough to build the side around, in my opinion. I think that's been one of the problems as he's regressed quite a lot and building the side around him makes us predictable and easier to defend against at the top level.

Rooney is better when he's a key component in a team rather than the main component in the team.

He doesn't have the mentality or ability to make a team a top class side.

^ I agree, it shows for England.
