Dark souls surprised me. I thought it would be too frustrating to play. I picked it up for a rennet and was pleasantly surprised. It's tough but not in an unfair way. I completed it
Batman: Arkham Asylum as well I am a huge Batman fan but there had never been a game that did the character justice.
With all the delays in release - never a good sign - I dismissed it. I got it on loan with a huge recommendation and well, we know the rest. It is one of my favourite PS3 games.
Also, the first Uncharted. This was back in 07, the first year of the PS3 and there weren’t many games around.
It didn't have the same hype as Assassin's Creed or COD:MW but I liked the idea so picked it up not really knowing what to expect.
It was / is brilliant.

Red Dead Redemption. I didn't want to play it at all but turned out to be one of the greatest games ever. I was mildly surprised.
Three that I can think of off the top of my head at the moment are Earth Defence Force, Bioshock (Thought that is was going to be all hype but loved it and will still happily replay it now) and MAG.
Heroes of Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes
MAG is great when you understand its all about teamwork and not going commando style on everyone.
Black on the PS2 was great. Never expected that much enjoyment.
Deadnation on the ps3 was enjoyable too.
there's a few but the one that comes easiest to mind is Gears of War 2...never heard of it nor the first one but my 360 died....wifey got me a replacement from Argos I think and it came with a games bundle...decent story line and a good multiplayer
Another one I got recently from PSN was Tokyo Jungle. Dont know if its still discounted (Think it was a one day thing as part of their Christmas offers).
RtM, thats why I enjoy MAG. A mate of mine was raving on about the fact that it has the ability to have matches with of over 250 people online and whilst I did die a shedload of times at first I've come to understand and enjoy it.
Oh and another game worth mentioning is Deus Ex, accidentally killing characters with fire extinguishers I thought were for decorative purposes = win
Uncharted, Mario Power Tennis.
I had high expectations for Deus Ex and it didn't let me down. Great game.
Found out that you can now pick it up (Deus Ex) for less than a tenner at Amazon!
Well worth it
