That team would batter anything the Skates could come up with, and of course they all played for the shirt not like the mercenaries that jumped ship when it went t*ts up at Nottarf Krap...

What great names lads in both teams, though i always preferred rod wallace to danny - great link up play with le tis and shearer.i would also stick David Peach in the squad

We had some jolly good players in the old days, after the war but, alas, I'm far too young to remember any of them.

I will say that the "Land of the Giants" team we had, a few years ago, was pretty good and there can't be many players from before that, that would make it into the legend (team) of yore.

It's all anarchy anyway!

We had a thread running on not606 recently where we picked a 23 man (world cup type) squad of Pompey players of the 21st century and this is what we came up with:

Goal Keepers
ASHDOWN
HISLOP
JAMES

Defenders
CAMPBELL
DE ZEEUW
DISTIN
JOHNSON
KABOUL
PRIMUS
STEFANOVIC

Midfielders
BERGER
DIARRA
MENDES
MERSON
O'HARA
O'NEIL
PROSINECKI
TAYLOR

Strikers
CROUCH
DEFOE
KANU
TODOROV
YAKUBU

Of course if you are talking 'all time' then don't forget the back to back title winning side of 1949 and 1950 will have players that will replace some of those listed above!

I'm almost 18 so I haven't seen some 'greats' that others are listing

Left out Kaboul as the last sub by mistake....

This is a bit like when United fans selected Cantona as their best player of all time instead of George Best. Channon won 45 caps and scored dozens of goals and is on the bench or not at all. Now come on ...

My 11

GK Shilton

Golac
Svennson
Lundekvam
Bridge

Le Tissier
Armstrong
Williams
Ball

Channon
Davies

Subs

Paine
Osgood
Sydenham
Stokes
Gurr

He'd always be in my side, only Matt comes anywhere near him in my eyes.

Agreed LD, but it is probably our age!

Controversially I nearly put Morgan in from the current team. Anyone (of my age!) agree that there is a bit of Bobby Moore about him? No higher praise

I forgot to put Dave Armstrong in my squad, unforgivable!
Yes, Morgan is certainly comfortable on the ball ACS, i'm not sure that he can tackle as well as Bobby Moore, but his passing range is better.

AndChannonScores / LD,

I know and it broke my heart but i picked a side that i feel would tear other teams apart and Mick (along with quite a few others) were left out.

My defence is tough and no-nonsense but from there on it's all attack with Case running the show in the centre.

I felt with Keegan running from midfield and Holmes and Armstrong running wide and feeding Shearer and Moran (and having a pop themselves) this was my ultimate team.

Both Shearer and Moran would take 2 defenders out forcing Portsmouth back.

If it was a European tie or Liverpool then my team selection might change.

CGO, I didn't really read the intial post before posting my team. If it was just a team to beat the present Skate line up it would be.

Tommy Forecast

Lee Todd
Davenport
Bennett
Olivier Bernard

Pulis
Lee Holmes
Ripley
Graham Potter

Ali Dia
Chicken George

As for present players, the one who stands out for me is Fonte, he's class. Shame he was cup tied when we played them last time, although they played Quincy Owusu-Abeyie in suspious circumstances so perhaps we should have sneaked him on.

Well that is a fair selection LD but i wanted to beat them by more than 5-0.

GK David James

Back four: Johnson, Scoular, Campbell,Herriedeson

Mid-field: Philips, Kranjkar,Kanu, Dickinson

Up Front: Froggatt, Crouch

They would see off any Saints eleven.

Crouch .

Alan Shearer couldn't get in our side and you write "Crouch"

Hey Jack, thanks for going easy on us and not including your big guns like Claridge and Knight.
