Because he could have gone down in the situation and been rewarded for it. As it is, he probably was fouled enough to disrupt the play - however referees more often than not miss these fouls, and so players chuck themselves down theatrically to compensate for the human error of officials.
A player does not have to be forced to ground for a foul to have occurred.
To get rid of diving, retrospective punishment would be a start. But also it would help to start awarding fouls in these specific cases. We need to incentivise staying up as much as punish going down.
Bobby was furious on the touchline that Tevez didn't go down.
Any player will tell you that (at any level of organised football) it is expected of you to go down if you feel any contact. (Go down and make the ref have to make a decision is what I was told). The only way to eradicate this kind of cheating is with the clubs.. the FA can't do anything about it themselves.
Because most players in Tevez' situation yesterday would have taken the penalty. Like you say it's sad, but it's true.

Totally disagree.
We often see fouls given for pushing in the back - very often in fact.
It's not for you to decide whether you think you've been fouled.
If Tevez had thrown himself to the ground, he'd have cheated - it's that simple.

Sorry, that's just not true. I've played decent standards of football.

Well Sir Alex tells people to, ask Jaap Stam.
May I refer you to;
'As it is, he probably was fouled enough to disrupt the play - however referees more often than not miss these fouls, and so players chuck themselves down theatrically to compensate for the human error of officials.'
No claim of acceptability, just a reasonable explanation as to why players behave as such.
If defenders are pulled up on those smaller, (usually deliberate) fouls then attackers may stop feeling the need to highlight them.
Naaaah. They'll keep falling all over the place like they've got two fish for shoes. But it's a nice thought.

But you're making a common mistake - you've decided that because there's been contact it must be a foul.
That's not actually how it works.
It's become 'reasonable' to some people because a lot of fans and players don't understand the laws of the game.
I'm not claiming all contact = foul. I'm claiming that defenders get away with more if the attacker stays up, because referees are imperfect.
Winston, his point is (using yesterday as an example), Tevez was fouled because it meant he lost his balance and rhythm so couldn't get a proper shot off, just because it did lot make him fall to the floor doesn't mean he wasn't fouled.
Exactly. Yesterday was a foul, referee should have given it, and next time Tevez is in the same situation I bet that he will go to ground. Not doing a lot to discourage diving in the long run.

Says who? You?

Maybe - that's your interpretation.
The referee perhaps didn't agree - have you considered that?
This is partly why we're in the situation - because people like you have taken it upon themselves to decide that they were fouled and in doing so, justify diving on the next occasion.
Yes, bloody hell. This is a forum of opinion you know

If it's an opinion don't state it as if it's some kind of fact.
winston, if it was Young He would have fallen like he got shot and awarded the penalty.
The same happened at the match against Sunderland, If hazard went down in the first minute larsson would have been sent off, but he didnt, he stayed on his feet and although it was a foul refa dont give a penno if a player doesn't go down
Honestly, without re-reading anything can you say that you've not maybe put across fact as opinion at some point

I always find that if people need to state something that hasn't happened as part of their reasoning, they're not worth discussing things with.
It says a lot about football when you have to say 'well done' to a player for not going down at the slightest contact.
Most footballers are a bunch of fairies.
So you're against the concepts of analogy and insurance

You stated 'it was a foul yesterday' - see my reply to busby babes for why I think that's a misplaced judgement to make.
