Before anyone starts thinking we should sell him to Coventry; we have to remember they can't afford to pay rent on their stadium and are cash-stricken - so to think they can not pay rent yet pay large sums of money for a player is beyond belief.
However, hypothetically, I would sell him now.
They can't/won't pay rent at the levels they are now. They have a transfer budget will be separate to this.
I have always thought with a decent run in the team he will score; the problem is this will not happen as he will not get in front of Dex/Cox and Sharp.
Southampton fans may be saying the same about Sharp though.
I think any transfer budget will be sacrificed in order to ensure the stadium rent is paid. Who's to say another team might come in for him though.
We cant sell him in the summer - he is out of contract and he can leave for free. If we sell him its got to be in January. £350k would be enough do you think?
Sell to the highest bidder.... He would suit Notts County and they are looking to push on come January. 300 - 400K would suit their budget too
Imagine Derby might come sniffing as they're always interested in our rejects ....
But I'd sell. He's obviously found his level in League 1 - if we can get a few quid for him and Derbyshire I'd be happy (but in reality expecting money in return for Derbyshire's services might be hoping for a little too much).
We need to sell McGoldrick. He has done well at cov & has earned a move.
Regardless of being out of contract, he is on a hefty wage that he doesn't earn at Forest (reported to be £11k p/week). This was why Kelvin Wilson refused to sign a contract as he wanted more than McGoldrick (which he deserved).
Same applies to all other loanees - Miller, Derbyshire & Greening (plus Tudgay to an extent although he doesn't cost us much).
Sell all to the highest bidder.
I think McGoldrick may come back to haunt us. We've discarded players without giving them a proper chance in the past like Grant Holt, Marlon King even Bryan Gunnarson. The fact that McGoldrick is top scorer per games played in L1 should show he's capable of so much more than what we've got out of him. When he was signed by Billy we had 7 strikers vying for the same couple of positions which was far too many. Players need to be given a good run of games and be instilled with encouragement whereas too often we've chopped and changed our front line. When was the last time we had a striker reach 20 league goals? Prob Johnson and Harewood in the Paul Hart era which clearly shows we havent been doing some things right with our strikers!!
Mcgoldrick will do a job now hes found hes feet again.
Saying that both him, and forest know his future lies somewhere else now. If he had a future we would of recalled him when we only had one striker and everything mcgoldricks said is directed at him moving on.
We've got teams like barnsley interested, so sell to the highest bidder. Sell him while hes hot and hes ours and let a bidding war between L1 and championship teams bump up his number.
I bet you he'll go to derby though
Get what we can in Jan.
Bigger fish to fry
Sell him. He deserves to be playing every week and won't get that with us. He's never convinced the fans and he has had long enough to prove himself and was picked in big games. He's a very good L1 striker so sell to highest bidder in that league. Good luck to him.
People keep saying he is a League 1 striker but don't forget before we signed him he had scored 12 goals in a very poor Southampton side during their relegation season from the Premier League. I don't believe he has really had the opportunity of a run of games to show what he can do at Forest.
I'm with Len.
He's obviously got some talent and we've let players go before saying they were useless and they've gone on to well.
What, so because we've let players go in the past when they performed poorly for us, we should keep hold of them just inc ase they play well against us in the future? He's never going to make it at Forest. Matt Derbyshire looked a good player at Blackburn so should we keep him, just in case he improves?
Did McGoldrick score 12 Premier league goals when Sainst went down Stan Lee? I don't think so.
The point is if a player can do well he has talent. It's just a case of getting the best out of him. Getting the right conditions for him to prosper. If that's playing for a manager, in a certain system or just giving him confidence which will already be sky high.
People seem to make it personal. He hasn't performed for us but its not because he didn't want too. I can't see the harm in giving him a go.
I remember David Johnson coming in for big money and doing nowt. He went out on loan scored a few. We brought him back in and he scored 25/30 goals that season. If you've got a player that's in form give him chance I say.
Matt Derbyshire has never had any pedigree anywhere he's been. Not remotely prolific and never will be not too mention he's injury prone. McGoldrick is hammering them in now at a level just below us so that in itself would suggest there is far more to come from him plus he's still young and will improve. If we got him back and SOD gave him the confidence he obviously needed and he kept himself out of hooters then I think he could do very well for us. Dont forget he got played on the wing for us at least half the time he came on!! He scored 12 goals in the championship for a relegated Southampton side which matches our top goal scorers any year this past 10+ years. I think Sharp now that he's settled could possibly grab 20 goals for us but if we had a motivated McGoldrick he'd be a far better back up striker than any of Tudguy, Findley, Miller, Derbyshire and I'd back him to match Cox or Blackstock for goals per game. Although to date he hasnt done enough to show he could do the amount of support work Blackstock and Cox currently provide.
I don't agree at all Len. Derbyshire was an exciting talent - loads of Eng U21 caps, very highly rated at Blackburn for a couple of years. He also had a good goalscoring record at Olympiakos. Something has gone seriously wrong for him, possibly the injuries and we should definitely get rid of him. McGoldrick is doing very well for Cov, but they're more than a level just below us. We're pushing on the play-offs in the Champ. They're a midtable League One side. That's his level. He did get unfairly put on the wing but so has Simon Cox throughout his career and he works his socks off and does well. I do agree that he's a better back-up than Miller, Findley and Derbyshire. I think he's alongside Tudgay in terms of effectiveness. I just don't think McGoldrick is a good footballer.
Sutton, you say under the right manager and right system he could prosper. Completely agree, but that's not going to happen at Forest. We've got at least 3 much better strikers. If he's really on 11k a week then we need him off the wage bill because I seriously doubt Cov are paying much of that.
cannagiaforforest - check his stats. 2008-2009 he scored 12 goals from 46 starts and 1 sub appearance for Southampton.
Apologies, I stand corrected. The 12 goals he scored was when Southampton got relegated from the Championship.

Here's something I can't understand though. If your strikers are so good (and I actually believe that Sharp is up there with Austin in this division)...
How come Derby's leading goalscorer has bagged more than Forest's?
Not only that, how come Robinson, Sammon and Tyson together have scored more than Sharp, Blackstock and Cox together, given that ours are rubbish and yours are so good?
Given those two FACTs, why would Derby want a player who is obviously rated below your top three strikers?
Give him another go, if he's got his confidence back then maybe he could still be the player we hoped he was when we signed him.
Not only that, how come Robinson, Sammon and Tyson together have scored more than Sharp, Blackstock and Cox together, given that ours are rubbish and yours are so good?

Have they? Tyson has scored at most two!!
Sharp 6
Cox 5
Blackstock 6 (1 in cup)
Total 17 (1 cup)
Robinson 9 (1 in cup)
Sammon 5
Tyson 5 (1 in cup)
Total 19 (2 in cup)
Fairly close but Derby's fantastic array of talent is beating Forest's at this point. Cox hasn't played much recently due to injury. They're all doing ok to be fair - especially Robinson.
My prediction would be that Sharp will have the most come the end of the season. As for the totals it will probably be close between the two clubs.
Well blackstck has only recently returned from injury, cox has been in and out with injuries and sharp was recruited on deadline day so no wonder the 3 derby rejects have more goals! What's there compared games to goals ratio? Pretty sure he forest boys will take that, a true reflection of striker ability
