To spite Chelsea and Arsenal.
They know realistically their teams can't get in it so they will support the teams that can stop their rivals. This is why there is a pro-Manc/Spud alliance that I have seen with my own two eyes on trips to WHL
Think about it logically. Pretend you are a United fan:
Leeds, Liverpool, City, Chelsea and Arsenal are both challenging for the 3rd and 4th CL spot. You can only choose 2, who do you choose? Chelsea and Arsenal (if you are a True Manc)
There is a reason why Liverpool fans would swallow their pride and root for Chelsea to win the league over United on the lesser of two evils principle.
I can honestly say that if a title race came down to West Ham, Spurs, United, Arsenal or QPR/Fulham, I would choose United or Arsenal to win the league everytime, even though I don't particularly like either of them.
Catch my drift?
I just Love it ...
