Rafa and Pav had their critics, but were fan favourites at the same time. Meaning they were capable of making an impact. Not many wanted either gone, and as Lions mentioned, no one wanted Charlie out.
And to say we are "nowhere near the top 2" is very harsh. We're an excellent team and with key players returning will get even better. Yes we've had some annoying results, but also some very good ones, hence our current league position. There seems to be this knee jerk reaction after a draw against Stoke, which wasn't the worst result by any means. But the truth of the matter is that the likes of Huddlestone, Dempsey and Siggy is that they may be good players, but just not good enough for Spurs
Realistic January deals
OUT - jenas, Bentley, Gomes, Livermore (loan)
IN - Ba
Realistic summer transfer dealings...
OUT - gallas, cudicini
IN - eriksen, monreal (Malaga LB), holtby (shalke CM, contract up in summer) A. Winger (afellay?)
Who I'd love us to sign.....
Farfan, moutinho
When we are defending we switch to a fluid 4-5-1 every man behind the ball and the defensive line drops deep to compact the space (hence so many late goals!)
============================
agree with what you say llm, but we havent done that since before the everton game.
Doovde, whilst I agree Charlie didn't wanna a bench player, saying he was too slow wasn't a problem for us. Remember we qualified for the Champions League with Corluka in the team Also, his link up play with Lennon worked a treat, it allowed Lennon to attack more without him worrying too much about covering back. Kyle Walker is a quality player but way too sloppy this season. I remember BAE used to get a slaughtering here despite him being half as sloppy and more defensively stronger.

and the last game he played for us in the CL after he;d come back from injury, he looked world class.
Corluka is still the only RB we've had who links up effectively with Lennon. I prefer having 2 different types of full back: the pace and attacking instinct of walker (he'll develop all-round as he ages) and the more measured corluka.
The bottom line is he wanted to leave because redyapp wouldn't rotate the squad much and keep players involved, for someone with his experience in the game is quite a poor oversight. Same with niko. Look at fergie as a prime example of squad management.
Corluka might of lacked pace but could get around the pitch well, he was often up in attack but never caught out in defense and he handled quick players like Young easily.
what we need is a player who can play striker or either wing with equal effectiveness.

tarrico sees red, exactly mate. Pointless getting excited or even thinking we will strengthen because we all know the outcome. Levy won't sanction a deal for a decent signing we desperately need.
don. so who would you sign in january?
lets keep it realistic please.
porto are in the cl. they won't sell moutinho
shaktar are in the cl. they won't sell william
llorente is nearing the end of his contract - he will soon go on a free for massive wages, why would he come to us with our wage limits
Don't need anything at the back. We have a lot of cover in midfield, Sandro and Dembélé are too good to sit on the bench. All we need is NEW STRIKER. Can't see another playmaker coming since we signed Dempsey and Siggy, regardless of form.
Can see Friedel leaving us with maybe Livermore going out on loan.
There won't be an overhaul as requested by Lion. There's always minimal activity in January for Spurs, and most other clubs. We're still very much in contention for top 4 with a lot of first team players returning to the squad.
Chronic, Llorente is reportedly in the 50-60k per week bracket. They may be forced to sell in January rather than risking him leaving on a free. Nothing unrealistic about it at all...
malaga need to sell. let's get Isco
Chronic, you talk like you are the owner of shaktar, porto and atletico bilbao all rolled into one. How do you know they won't sell to us? Correct me if i'm wrong but recent summer these teams were in the champions league and you were happy and felt they were realistic signings before so what has changed now? Its down to levy to stop playing every club off as fools abd pay the f. Ucking money needed. I'm not saying splash 90mil on a big spending spree but it's quite obvious we need a top quality striker and have done for years. Levy and spurs have the money so i don't get why you have this obsession that we don't. We wouldn't of wasted our time with moutinho if we didn't have the funds, levy is just a tight a ss.
If there's an irresistible deal this window then we should take it, if not I'm more than happy to wait till the summer, as long as we do our busy early, so we hit the ground running...
