It's not because their defence is great, it's the system they employ. They are all out defence, boot the ball up the pitch, push, pull and kick type of team. They are thus difficult to break down, especially for technical teams. If you do manage the get a goal early then things become easier.
They are a horrible football team. Tony Pulis deserves no praise for simply keeping a team mid-table for the past 4 years playing the worst football in the league by miles.

This article isn't about how bad their football is
Stoke are by far the worst team to watch in Premier League history, over physical, long ball and set piece tactics..... they play a game closer to rugby than football.
Stoke will always be a mid table team no matter how good they are defensively.
They have fairly ordinary players and Pulis plays his defensive rugby style just to keep them up, if they tried to play proper football with that squad of players they would be a worse team than they are now.
Doo doos I can't believe no ones mentioned it but they're a horrible football team
If stoke attacked they would not have such a good defence would they
I dont know why we dont play 3 strikers against teams that just want to defend, we gave stoke very few problems

Stoke are a dreadful team, but fair play to them, they do what is best for them. But they have no chance of progressing to anywhere above where they are now.

The two strikers you had on the pitch were totally ineffectual, who else have you got Levy wants to unlock his purse in January.
Stoke should be playing in the rugby league.
Why would any decent forward want to move to Stoke?
They've shown that they have no ambition with their particular brand of football and would struggle to attract any striker.

Stoke have a greet defensive record but not a great defence
Despite them being a terrible team they are a tough nut to crack!

I quite like Stoke, they get up Goonnnnns noses.
Yesterday was the worst game of football I have seen at the lane for a long while. I don't expect Stoke to lay down and let us walk all over them. but there are limits They have no chance of improving ,playing the style they adopt and will gain very few friends along the the way. Spurs do not escape criticism either. They resorted to long shots and showed very little imagination or commitment. They are not good to watch at present and will end up mid table the way things are going.
yesterdays game was terrible, but i wasn't tooooo disappointed with a point.
at the end of the day, i was watching stoke closely, and their defence is comfortably the best we have come up against this season - its so so solid, and they had no intention of winning the game - time wasting from minute 1. the ref was awful too. at the end of the day, just be glad to not have to play them again for a while, and move on

Sandy if thats what you like to watch that just about sums up your knowledge of football.

I appreciate you are a top Spurs supporter who doesn't like to criticise but if you are not dissapointed with a point at home to Stoke, then you do not have the winning mentality that is requires to get to the top. Yesterday I got the feeling that is how the players felt also and that is why we are not improving.
hang on a minute, i said i wasn't tooooooo disappointed.
i am disappointed with any dropped points at home, unless its against a team who i consider better than us (not many).
however, it wasn't the worst result in the world. Stoke will take points off the teams around us too... just like they did with everton the other week, and arsenal

We dont have 3 strikers... thats why
With Stoke they have shape, all know their jobs, are strong, and not only work as a unit, but work blimming hard as a unit.
When you play them you have to match all this first and foremost. Then your better technique should show through.
The truth is we have been wholly unconvincing at home all season - teams have come and found it quite easy to stop us.
14 goals in 10 home games simply isn't good enough
Listen guys you & the so called big teams, have been in the Prem from day 1,we are still playing catch up.
Yes we have spent a lot of money, but that was because we had a CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM when we first came up.
We are evolving SLOWLY, if you do not concede you do not lose the game.
Now we have the defence sorted, we will as the OP suggested, with a couple of pacy wingers & a pacy forward, start to be a team with a realistic chance of becoming a permanent top 8 team.
