Naughton had his best game in a Spurs shirt yesterday. he is neat and tidy and a useful squad player.
he has a long way to go to convince me he will be a regular in our side.
however with Walker making some awful school boy errors at times this season, then maybe Naughton deserves a run in our side.
as for new signings don't hold your breath. though a decent striker is a must. Defoe gets injured and we are stuffed. Ade has been woeful all season and is likely to go to the african nations next month
Ramble away tommy!
Only saw highlights of the game yesterday (was working yet again!) so didn't really see how naughton performed, but by most accounts he was decent/good. Also saw walker give the ball away and concede the free kick.
I also find the walker-bashing ridiculous, yes he performed better than many of us expected last season but we all have to remember that it was his first full season in the premier league! He's also only 21/22. How many top full backs could defend at that age?
Maldini
Thuram
Lahm
Erm.... That's about it.
Another striker is also a must in this transfer window. Where we'll get one from I've got no idea. But unless bale, Lennon and Dempsey all chip in with 10-20 each we won't get by on just Defoe and ade
Here's a better team:
Lloris
Naughton Kaboul Vertonghen Benny A-E
Sandro Parker
Lennon Dembele Bale
Defoe
Oh yeah I almost forgot....
Was watching Sunday supplement this morning and they were taking about zaha. I've personally never seen him play, but they mentioned he's made about 120 appearances for palace. From what I hear his stats for them aren't all that despite his general all-round play. He's 20 not 17, not worth spending the reputed £15m on him
Also, I know a lot of posters on here have given up on ADE, but I think he is just going thru a lean patch and should be partnered with Defoe up front.
Then the question is what you do with the midfield.
Ted
I am with you on Ade, I like him, and sure he is not putting the ball in the net, but his hold up play is usually pretty good, and he gets through a lot of work. He will come through the barren patch no worries.
Agree, ADE is putting in a shift all over the pitch.
He'll start scoring again.
Dempsey is another one that seems to have suffered a loss of form. But in his case, I'm not so sure he can play to the level we need.
Anyone know when Kaboul will return?
Lots of aspects of ade's play have been winding me up but i reckon he'll come good soon. His positional play has been great, just touch and a bit of luck letting him down.
He's like a fruity that's due to pay out
Ade has no touch whatsoever these days
Kaboul back in 1 month avb said today
Ade is poo. he offers little his touch is poor, he is lazy and he could not finish his dinner
You're not trying to pick a late nite argument, are you Lilly?
Better talk to AVB about why he continues to put ADE in the line-up
ade is a good player when he wants to be but since we gave him back to city he has been doing my head in with one thing or another.
he needs to get rid of his ridiculous haircut and at least pretend to be hungry for goals.
his work rate is the most overrated thing in football - its no better than any other player on our team, and his hold up and link up play is non existent.
i reckon he holds one in 3 balls played into him.
he should be holding 8 in 10, as the vast majority are played in with quality, or at least were v sunderland.
drop him for siggy
Rambling
With Ade refusing to play for his country and AVB repeatedly saying we don't need to sign anyone I fear we won't.
I'm sure he's got a player or two in mind that would improve the team but I can't see Levy laying out for anyone of Willian, Damiao, or Llorente's price range.
Hopefully he'll have spotted the next Michu and he's keeping it under wraps, or used his Portugese connections to get us some exciting talent in.
bales, i think that its good to freshen up the squad a bit. maybe livermore and carroll on loan, and bring in one or two face if we can. i agree with you about the big names though.... we won't even try to sign them.
why go for willian in jan when he would cost 30 mill (jan premium + shaktar still in CL means won't want to sell), when in the summer he would go for about 20 mill i reckon.
i would look at some young talent.. maybe Tom Ince? depends how much he would cost.
Not for me. Yes the right foot is his strongest. However his best postion is left back imo.
At right back Naughton inexplicably moves towards the central defender leaving space in behind him. It is a fault with his game he has had for years and seemingly cannot get knocked out of him. At left back his positioning is significantly better.
I would play one of the youth boys in resting Walker, we have a stupid amount of potential right backs coming through Barthram, Smith (who is regarded as first team despite being on loan), Byrne, Mcqueen, etc.
Interesting to note that Walker and Naughton can play anywhere across the backline, Naughton can also play anywhere across midfield=Versatility.

i assume BAE will have to wait for his chance..
he will no doubt play v Coventry, but in the league i expect Naughton to hold his place for the time being. he deserves to.
I watched a bit of Blackpool the other day just to see what all the fuss is about with young Ince.. he's a lot like Lennon but with a larger build. Certainly a level above the championship. I'd like him at Spurs but I'm not sure if he's an AVB player..
Agree we need to freshen up the squad, Livermore and Carroll look certain to be frozen out, and Hudd.. especially if we make any kind of signing in midfield.
I'd like to see a young striker come in who'll shake things up but won't mind being benched occasionally.. Bony..
i am not sure about frozen out... they are just squad men...
not sure what the deal is with carroll.. i really like the young man.. but he hasn't convinced anywhere he has been... even at Derby although i gather the problem there was physique not technique. i don't think he will make it at spurs, which is a shame, but hopefully we can get a decent fee for him eventually.
as for livermore, i am amazed that he has made as many appearances as he has, as he is a totally limited player imo. again i have no problem with him, but he is just not good enough for spurs..
if we can get 5 mill for him then that is good business.
hudd... dunno what is wrong there... he's a class act, but maybe he needs a change. he looked poor whenever he played this season really...
i wouldn't sell though.
i would keep this season, then maybe loan him out next season and monitor him closely before making a decision. not sure how long he has left on his contract, but when levy is about its safe to assume that most of the players are on long term deals.
Fair, "frozen out" probably was a harsh way of putting it but they're not going to be playing first team football. Weird how you'd rather keep hold of Hudd than the kids though.. Carroll especially has tons of potential if he eats his greens
The only youngster I see as definitely below par is Kane.. Naughton went to Norwich last season and was a solid first team regular, Harry's done nothing and looked shocking in the Europa last season.
I know you don't rate Livermore but for me his performances last season warrant one more go at the first team at least.. he's also handy for cover at the back.
bales... i would like to give carroll a loan... but somewhere where he plays. same with townsend actually.
look at danny rose this season. walker two seasons ago. caulker and naughton last season.
tbh maybe a loan to QPR would be the best thing for livermore, see how he copes playing every game.
i am always willing to give a kid another try before selling them, so i can't really argue with you on that one..
however hudd is a proven premier league class player.
if dembele got injured for the rest of the season, i would feel better knowing that hudd will have to play 15 games, rather than relying on carroll for those 15... if you see what i mean
I do see what you mean, it makes sense.
