What a relief! Thought you would miss kick off!

Need to leave more time just to be on the safe side IMO.

Maybe I'm travelling to Leeds early in the morning and won't have time?

So why did you do the match thread so early?

posted on 1/1/13

Petrov - no worries.

Obers - do have stuff to do before the game tomorrow. It takes me about 30 mins to do, have to draw info from Burnden Aces results archive, BBC match preview, BBC league table, Wikipedia, Sky Bet and our predictions thread.

The game kicks off at 3am due to the reputation the Wanderers fans have travelling away from home, so perfect timing to put this up

In all seriousness, how many are you bringing to Elland Road? £36 isn't cheap to watch 2 midtable clubs!

Only 1,000 sold as of Sat night, SKB. I'm not going out of principle, 36 quid to visit one of the most horrible grounds in the country, it's just not on. We took 3,000 to Hudds.

I agree it's very poor. The example you gave of Huddersfield, i went there a couple of seasons ago against Peterborough in league one in the away end for around £12 as a student. Went to Leeds v posh in League one the season before and it was £26 behind the goal due to no matchday concession for students, massive contrast for the 2 West Yorkshire clubs.

I think NYD is a factor, and all the other games/Xmas spending people have shelled out for. Tickets for Hudds were 20 quid for us the other week btw, and it's a modern ground with proper seating and facilities. Had a bad experience at the rugby league in the away end a few years ago, dangerously full concourse at half time, nobody cared, horrible stewards - just an off putting combination of circumstances alongside the price mate.

Burnley brought just over 1600 last year, but that was on the 2nd Jan. With the away fans now situated in the West Stand with a poor view there is no way you can justify the price which is obviously higher than behind the goal/corner where away fans used to be situated.

Boro brought a decent number a couple of weeks ago, but in general the away numbers are terrible now which impacts on the atmosphere massively. You are priced as a category A game, Ipswich at the start of last month was category B, yet the price is only £2 lower for the away fans (£34), hence a terrible away following.

How much are home tickets for the game mate?

posted on 1/1/13

In the West Stand (which you are in) they are all £36. Opposite in the East Stand is the same £36 for the lower tier and £38 for the upper tier (terrible view). Then behind the goal is £31.

Wow, to be fair, you have a very large fan base for a Champ club and your board are milking you guys a little.

Our category A home games are 28 to 35 quid for home fans.

As i briefly mentioned before about a lack of a student matchday price, as soon as you turn 16 you are an adult in the eyes of Leeds United and pay the prices quoted above. Also senior citizens can only purchase tickets behind the goals or in the East Stand family area (£40 membership required) or the South East corner family area (where the away fans used to sit).

We came up into the Championship 2010/11 with a decent squad and just missed out on the playoffs, resulting in an average attendance of over 26000. We then let players walk as we couldn't agree new contracts, sold our best players and relied on free transfers and loans to replace them. We are now averaging around 21000.

Did your drop from the Prem impact on matchday prices?

posted on 1/1/13

No, our prices (including season ticket) have been frozen for about three seasons in a row now. It means if you have a season ticket you're getting more games for the same price, and it can work out about 14 quid a game now.

We also have a membership scheme, pay for 5 games in a season and get a game of your choice for free.

posted on 1/1/13

Think our membership now includes £5 off match tickets for 3 games per season.

5's for the article by the way, some interesting statistics

Your away form immediately stands out, with the fewest away wins in the division and just over 2 goals per game conceded on average (helped by the visit to London Road).

Thanks for the 5* bud. To be honest, I think we're pretty similar home and away this season, but that our opponents play that bit weaker at our place. I don't think anybody is worried about our away form specifically, just our form in general. W8 D9 L8, just no consistency.

Our most damaging results have come against the sides struggling at the bottom. We've lost at home to Ipswich and Sheff Wed for example, and only drew at home vs Barnsley.

We're hoping that Freedman will be able to bring in a few players with Championship experience in January to compliment the 'big names'.

Our other big hope is that our best player by miles, Stuart Holden, will put his near two-year injury nightmare behind him, he's very close to returning now, he's the heartbeat of our team and we've missed him so much it's untrue.

posted on 1/1/13

Yeah, you also struggled in the home game with bristol City requiring a turnaround from 2 goals down to claim all 3 points.

Will be interesting to see how Holden manages his return to fitness. Hopefully he'll come back similar to Jack Wilshere at Arsenal who was also out for a similar period and contributed for them pretty much from the start of his return.

Looking at your squad you definitely should be doing better, but the same can be said about the other 2 relegated clubs.

I have to say i liked your previous manager, probably based on the football you played in the season after he kept you up. He also came across well in interviews. Similarly Dougie Freedman is a good young manager who was doing a fantastic job with Palace, but your results have remained inconsistent.

What do you think to Afobe? He looked a poor player when i saw him for Huddersfield in League One, although admittedly he was very young (17 at the time i think). He seemed to lack composure in front of goal and his touch often let him down.

We all liked Coyle as a person. A lot of outsiders don't really appreciate the part he played in our history as a player. He was only with us for two seasons but he was part of a legendary side in the mid 1990s - what Bolton fans call the 'White Hot' years under Bruce Rioch.

We spent those years in the 3rd and then 2nd tier playing the best football we've played in my lifetime, certainly. There was a fearlessness, a sense of rebirth around the club, epitomised by a run of incredible giant killings and flowing football we've never come close to since. Coyle was a part of that special time, scoring some vital goals. He was a nine stone dart of a striker who made uncanny runs off the centre back's shoulder.

So when Gary Megson, who was hated and reviled, was sacked, it was brilliant to have Coyle appointed. He was given no money to spend and worked wonders in his first half season, keeping us up and lifting everyone around the club, and then in his first full season he had us in and around the top 8 all season.

Then in March and April that year (2011), a number of things went wrong which sent the club into a talespin - the sickening 5-0 defeat at Wembley to Stoke, Holden's injury at Old Trafford, the loss of form of stalwarts like Jaaskelainen and Kevin Davies, and we somehow finished a very unflattering 14th.

A stupor descended upon the club, and Coyle seemed to have no answers. In the following pre-season, our 2nd best player after Holden, Chung-Yong Lee, broke his leg, as did new signing Tyrone Mears. The fixture computer threw up the most horrendous opening run of fixtures of our 11 years in the PL. By the time we got through that opening 8 games, we expected to be in the relegation places, but more worryingly, the players' confidence was smashed. It took until Christmas to recover some form.

We went into our game against Blackburn immediately before Christmas on 9 points. We just gave ourselves too much to do in the 2nd half of the season. Gary Speed died, Fabrice Muamba almost died, the horrendous injury run continued, we expected to have Holden back but there was a major setback, we were forced to sell Cahill in the January or would have lost him for nothing, Coyle failed to sign another CM in the January window, a lot of problems compounded and again Coyle didn't have a Plan B.

As it turned out everything was still in our hands going into the last 6 weeks of the season. We had the 'easiest' fixtures out of ourselves, QPR and WIgan, but then those two started pulling off miracle results and we only won one of our last 8 games. Even then though, our points tally for the 2nd half of the season was mid-table form, but we just got off to too bad a start and didn't have enough fit players/new ideas to save ourselves.

The malaise under Coyle continued into pre-season, some truly dismal results, Coyle himself set a target of 2 points per game for this season, he averaged about 1.1. It was time for a change.

I like Coyle as a person, maybe with a bit of money to spend, or a bit of better luck, things would have worked out differently, but on balance we deserved to go down last season. We were cheated on the last day at Stoke, though. A win would have kept us up. We drew 2-2. One of their goals saw our keeper barged into the net, the other was a very soft penalty.

Personally I am enjoying QPR's suffering this season though, I thought of them very much as the bad guys in the survival race last season, a team of mercenaries led by the vile Hughes.

With regards to Afobe, he scored a hat-trick at Tranmere in pre-season and I got a bit carried away with excitement, but unfortunately he has been very average for us so far. He's 19 now, he has raw talent, but as you will know, this is a man's league, and he's not at the stage in his development where he is going to score regularly at this level. He's technically competent but he's simply not a handful for defences.

I assume the loss of Elmander in the summer of 2011, also impacted on your eventual relegation season.

To be honest i'm indifferent to Warnock as a person (can't fault his management record though), but the way QPR treat him and acted as a club over the last few seasons to be honest, not forgetting the signing of Joey Barton, i'm also enjoying their struggles.

I also can't stand Megson for the way he managed your club and could understand your fans frustrations. I took a disliking to him from the start in the way he was appointed after just a few weeks at Leicester. Also enjoyed is sacking from the owls when they trailed the blades in 2nd spot by 5 points, having played a game more.

I will echo that comment sir.

On to today's football, I can only see a defeat for us today. We will probably be exposed down the flanks, I just think we are so week on the wings at the minute.
