Typical bla bla bla from the Daily Fail!

When Utd are on Tv, the viewing figures are high. This in turn brings in more advertising revenue for commercial stations. Like you say, basic economics.

Pretty obvious why they do it. Personally, I would prefer it to be a couple of the minnows, as there is enough live PL games on tv nowadays anyway, but I don't really get why broadcasters wouldn't want to attract the bigger audience, thats the whole point of paying for the rights isn't it?

It's simply because ITV can show the Premier league's biggest team for free when they don't have the rights for any Premier league games.

If you went into a nightclub and were told you could have any woman in there you'd hardly choose Susan Boyle when Kate Upton was there flashing her thighs?!

Even if Susan Boyle was the underdog. Emphasis on 'dog'

Indeed. The cheek it of it is the DailyMailonline seems to be obsessed with the Kardashian clan ( i only knew about them late last year), i don't care for them but they clearly have a lot of fans and the Daily Mail uses them to shift copies.

Absolutely ridiculous argument. United are the most popular team so the most people want to watch them. Simple.

Is there any intelligent person who takes what they read in the Mail seriously?

The Mail likes to portray itself as the barometer of the nation.

When i am bored and i want to amuse myself, i pick a 'controversial' story on the website and read the comments section. The amount of rightwing, racist , sexist bile that is lathered there from its readers does make me chortle.

Still, it's printing facts about Utd

If you actually look at the games, most times we have either played a PL team, or a minnow. Such games usually get televised. No big surprise.

to be honest I pray for 3,0-clock Sat kick off in the cup.

posted on 3/1/13

considering its one of the biggest ties of the round its no surprise its on live TV. Imagine ITV winning the right to the cup (millions of pounds) and wanting to show a game that will get the biggest viewing figures.........basic business sense.

Anyways we have only been on TV once over the xmas period - when was the last time that happened?

I think the Daily Mail gets a rough ride. It does have its fair share of crazy readers but no more than any other newspaper.

The vast majority of people I know that read the Daily Mail and even the comments you mostly see on the articles are fairly moderate.

People in the UK love to put labels on things and labelling the Daily Mail as a 'right wing Fail' of a newspaper just perpetuates a myth that might be true in small doses but hardly is the whole truth.

Rant over!

Not just the games, if the BBC/ ITV and Sky/ ESPN are given the choice of the games they televise (and they can pick 4 games a round between them), it's likely one of these games will be Man Utd. I'd bet the other 3 games have always included one of the other top 4 teams too.

but a tea time kick off gives us a chance to get some more beer/pie & mash down us!

What United game could ever not be televised?

United vs Premier league club = free Premier league game for ITV to stick it to Sky.

United vs Lower league team = potential underdog shock.

Either way you can see why ITV choose us every time!

You are wrong.

My elder sis is an avid reader of the DM and when she is about, i peek through the paper. She regularly tells me and i myself have seen that the 'online' version is very different from the 'paper' version.

Infact, it is like a different paper entirely.

Red Cog

Which version do you find to be less offensive?

Poor Mr Metcalfe, Utd is the biggest show in town. It would be stupid not to cash in when the opportunity arises.

Daily Mail journalist must really have nothing to talk about. Won't be long until they start doing a Yahoo and have whole articles because a player changed his hairstyle.

Rob

even those who own and work for the Mail claim it's editorial content is very much 'right of centre'. That is where it aims to be and where it's readers want it to be....despite you claiming that its actually quite moderate..... for some inexplicable reason!

Robert, i don't buy newspapers but when i do read the paper version, it is nowhere near as obnoxious as the online version.
