Oh and a striker with real pace and intelligent movement would help stretch the opposition and create that bit of space.

If he can bang in 15 goals then bl00dy great!!

Hes, fit, proven, experienced and knows exactly how to score in this league.

So on that basis I dont think hes right for Dave Jones. I expect him to sign for Leeds

If anything I'd opt for youth from L1 and L2 rather than prem rejects in this transfer window.

We need hunger and energy. Someone like Earnshaw would benefit by sharing experience I suppose but wasn't Betty supposed to do that and also score goals aplenty?

I'm afraid I'd disagree with Earnshaw being a good move as he is yet another 'usual suspect'; he may or may not be able to mentor younger squad members - that is an unproven area so makes him a big gamble.

We're in a position where we need to invest properly or else we will go down. I expect we'll see the usual second hand car dealing going on though. Pah!

Ideally replacing Crap Dave would be the best option IMHO

Hmmm. btw I didn't 1 this article

Love it to happen, DJ knows him, like you say he knows where the net is, pacey makes decent runs and shows goo movement...but he'll plump for the useless lump Sidibe no doubt

Mega, the devil is in the detail - "DJ knows him" to quote your above post!!!!

For that reason alone it should be enough to make a naysayer out of the most avid Owl.

I politely disagree with everyone

See your point but you cannot deny that he is proven at this level Shib, on that basis alone i'd be happy to have him here, but I also on the other hand agree that a hungrier, younger player who can score goals could be a good tonic for us.

But...this is DJ we are talking about...welcome back Betty and Sid

I think earnshaw is about as realistic signing as we could make although I think his best days are behind him. I'd like to see us take a chance with Jose baxter at tranmere who looked a good player when he first came on the scene and is still only about 20 now.

Would like to see if we could get Richard Chaplow on loan from Southampton for the rest of the season as well. Decent player who does not get much of a look in these days but could really make a difference to our midfield

posted on 4/1/13

Like your thinking Floyd although I confess to not having much knowledge on Jose Baxter.

Mega, yes good point, but I'm not for moving on my opinion on Earnshaw!

posted on 4/1/13

Not bad shouts them floyd , only thing is though Baxters at Oldham although he did have a spell at Tranmere but yeah, they are realisitc signings and Chaplow is quality at this level me thinks

posted on 4/1/13

Also what with DJ Campbell going back then why shouldnt we try our luck with him? He's a far better player than a certain other QPR player we had AND scores goals too!!

WHAT YOU WAITING FOR DJ???

posted on 4/1/13

My mistake about Baxter being at tranmere, like you say Milan he is at Oldham now. Seems to be doing ok though.

It is difficult to know who is a realistic signing but I'd rather have one or two quality players who would really make a difference rather than half a dozen journey men like DJ seems to like wasting our wage budget on.

Same here Floyd, its like ive said before he signed 3-4 too many players, we played pretty much the same team that got us promotion for the first three games and won two and drew the other, dosnt that tell you something? I still maintain that if DJ hadnt faffed about and signed players who were either not good enough or we didnt need we'd be higher up I think!!

posted on 4/1/13

I agree - no journeymen please.

Mega completely agree with the above.

Where's our appetite at?

Fair points

Although I'm not bothered about whether experienced players come in can mentor or help build the future. We've got 20 games left to save our season. If I were manager I'd be looking to give as short a contract as possible to any new permanent players so we can clear a bit of dead wood if we do manage to stay up.

I see Ipswich have signed McGoldrick and McLean. Not that bothered about either really but clearly other teams have had a transfer plan in place and are ready to act on the 4th Jan, whilst we are pretty quiet.

I think someone on Twitter started a rumour that we might sign that young Arsenal centre back on loan....

And that's about your lot (other than we might be down a player if Llera is on his way).

posted on 4/1/13

Its there somewhere in Bywater, Buxton, Llera, R Johnson, Semedo, Antonio, Madine, COG

DJ for me (and predictably the rest of us) has ruined the ethic and morale that we had last season by doing the above stated, we would only get that back if and only if Megson came back, but whats the chances of that happening now eh???

posted on 4/1/13

Does mean they're unlikely to be back in for DJ Campbell but if he's at Hillsborough in blue and white by the end of January, I'll give you the money myself.

___________

If they did a job on the pitch, unlike Betty, then yes I'd agree, but if not so effective on the pitch then at least put in a shift behiond the scenes at training, in the dressing room etc.

But fair comment diceman.

Unfortunately, IMO Bothroyd has muddied the waters further on the subject of older/experienced players by showing a lack of anything other than his ability to keep taking a pay cheque.

posted on 4/1/13

Yeah, if we were mid table you could live with someone not exactly pulling up trees on the pitch if he had a positive effect on the training field. As you and the rest of us know, Betty did neither.

I believe any players who come in, and I do think we need them, need to be ready, willing and able to put it in on the pitch from pretty much the word go. I couldn't give a to$$ if they turned up half drunk as long as they perform on a Saturday arvo.

Our situation is a pretty urgent one and I think DJ lost the will to succeed (or even get out of bed) a few months ago, and Mandaric seems to be losing interest a little bit. I'm not sure they have fully grasped the situation, its almost as if its like "well if we go down we're bound to bounce straight back" - which we all know doesn't happen easily.

We need players who can grab the game by the scruff of the neck themselves, without the need for a rocket from the manager, they won't get one! I'm starting to annoy myself now so I shall sign off (plus its nearly time to down tools....).

Hoping for better news in the next few days, starting with a confident win over MkDonalds.....

Great post Diceman

Well a good win over the franchise should give us more confidence goin into the next game.

Also, although I very much doubt this will happen, but I'd like to see a couple of fringe players get a chance tommorow, I think it would be a good opportunity for DJ to fianally see what the likes of Rodri and Maguire and Mayor are made of! Surely if they perform well and score one or two then he'll start them more...but like I said I cannot see it

Batth available on loan

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11688/8380230/Wolves-are-looking-to-loan-out-defender-Danny-Batth

ARE YOU WATCHING DJ????

Jeez about 4-5 quailty players available and I'll bet your bottom doller we'll both not get them or either bother going for them!!!

posted on 4/1/13

Noticed that wolves are looking to put Danny Batth back out on loan may be worth trying to get him back. At least we'll have another member of last years line up

Also good article diceman, been nice to see one stay on topic!

posted on 4/1/13

I would love Batth to come back. I think he's burnt a little of bridges though by chasing the money by going back to Wolves. At least that is how it looked to me - not sure though. He's definitely worth looking at.

Dorrans might be too high a price bracket for us. I suspect he'd prefer to go to a higher placed championship club if he were to stay in England????

posted on 4/1/13

The thing with DJ at the moment, is that no one wants to go into battle with someone constantly on the verge of tears.
I'd like to see Batth back and Dorrans would be a great signing. No one from prem will likely want him, so why not come to us? Brunty can put us a word in.
