"The hypocrisy of Wenger's 'socialist'....

It seems like he is blaming Wenger for having a high paying contract. He didn't award it to himself, that's Gazidis's fault!

wenger was the first to mention his "socialist" wage plan.

The idea that socialism has anything to do with earning £60k a week for sitting on the bench/treatment table is offensive

The facts are clear though. No other manager in european football is the highest paid staff ahead of the players. He's paid more than Fergie and only Mourinho, Capello and Ancelloti are paid more than him.

So since Wenger also plays a part in setting the wages structure, isn't it hypocritical of him?

Sadly this article appears pretty much spot on.
(Although Wenger is by far the most important man at our club so his wages being higher isn't too bad IMO).

What is terrible is Wenger being stupid enough to think a socialist style equal pay (amongst players at least) would be remotely successful - that's disgustingly stupid.

------------------
Chief executive Ivan Gazidis has profited from Wenger’s faux-socialism too, raking in a £675k bonus on top of his £1.36m annual salary

Very good point Serial, I wonder if this has always been the case when we had the likes of Henry etc?

So, who here gets paid more than their manager?

Not even me, as shocking as that sounds!

Oh and Dot, joking aside, the world of Sport is a totally different beast to that of business.

It's the Sports Stars that perform, attract the fans and ultimately the merchandising and sponsorships. It's the stars that get paid more then the Managers.

Not in Wenger's case, who is without a doubt, far more important to the Arsenal board than any of our players. Even's Arsenal's wage structure is more akin to a business than a sports club!

And Serial - Arsenal is more of a business than a football club so my point is valid unfortunately.

I agree, unfortunately.

So that's an entire article based on one quote from Wenger where he claimed we have a socialist wage structure? Modern football couldn't be further from the ideals of socialism so I can only assume that Wenger wasn't being entirely serious. I certainly don't think Wenger believes the club genuinely operates a socialist wage structure.

So in answer to your question OP, I think the author of this article is neither too harsh or truthful. He is either drunk, stupid or on the wum.

Or more likely, a combination of the three.
