If you had a talented kid who's already spent the 1st 3 months of the season at a club playing bad football, not very well, with a losing attitude/habit, you'd want him to go a bit higher up the ladder next time you sent him out.

How can anyone blame him for not coming back here? As previously mentioned, why would Moyes want his young, promising talent going to a team who are going down, play crap football and have a clueless manager?
