I can safely say the non-league was a slip. I think it's great, good to hear that we're giving youth a chance again. I just hope we don't get to the end of Jan, realise he's not quite up to it, and then panic buy Fabianski or Gomes.

Think Saturday will answer a lot of questions about Darlow, because if he can handle that situation and produce a good display, then he could tie down the NO.1 spot for the considerable future.

Depends how involved he has to get I suppose. I'm hoping we learn nothing about him on Sat, apart from maybe how good is goal kick is.

Yeah because you can make an assessment of a player in one game a few training sessions. We've clearly been knocked back by the other GKs we were trying to buy and they've decided to stick with Darlow. It's great for the lad and hopefully he'll be up to it but I'm sure this is not what McLeish had in mind.

Green was the target according to all rumors, and everyone thought it would be done but then QPR wanted a lot larger slice then Forest were willing to pay of green's £50,000 a week contract.
then obviously other clubs with Robinson e.t.c have wanted more as well, so i say give Darlow the chance as he has the potential to be a great keeper, hopefully the money saved can be used on signing Dex and Radi back up again as well.

Darlow has not only just come to the club. Everyone already knows about him. He's always been rated as a future first team keeper from what I hear.

We know we tried to sign Green and couldn't get it done. But at 50k a week that's not a surprise. I'm not saying Darlow is first choice, we'd rather have green. Just that having weighed up our options and the manager having seen more off him we decided he's up to it

Darlow hasn't just come to the club but McLeish has. I think it's great that a promising young keeper is being given a chance. But I think it is odd that after missing out on Green they haven't gone for someone else with good experience. If he can get through this weekend and perform well then he's definitely good enough.

I suppose if you identify a target that you think will improve the squad but can't get him, then it's not always best to just bring someone else in.

Our targets did seem very ambitious.

AM took advise from the coaching staff surely who put their reputations (with him) on the line and he's gone with Darlow. He's well due his chance, hungry, young ambitious keeper. Much rather see him promoted then signing some over the hill 'has been' on big wages

Yeah true but I wouldn't necessarily say Green is an over the hill has been. Keepers tend to get better with age and experience and peek in their early 30s. Occasionally you get keepers who are top class at a young age like Casillas. But even Man Utd who have put their trust in a young keeper, have suffered from eratic performances. I would loved us to have signed someone like Paul Robinson or Kieron Westwood.

In response to the above comment, I know for a fact (no way of proving this on here) that we enquired for Westwood but Sunderland dismissed it and didn't want to lose him.

Odd considering he isn't starting and would surely want first team football.
