We have built a good team just like we did back in 04/04 with Ranieri. We just need Mourinho to come in and add his touches just like he did in 04/05 and we will be set.
Your joking with me right , if you read the above youd realise a good team is not defined as good individual flair players.
We lack depth/substance and after all we spent were left with two central midfielders and little cover
Sam
Totally agree. We do have the team. We just lack the winning mentality, squad depth, discipline and decent striker
It is unfair to compare players who were world class in their prime (and whome many took a long time to get there) to players who are yet to reach their prime.
Unless the likes of oscar, De bryune, Cesar, Lukaku et al all fulfill their maximum potential with us, I would consider our transfer policy over the past 3 seasons a complete failure.
gosh some of your are so inept its laughable . the avarage IQ on here must be below 80

Spot on appraisal CFC-4life. In the signing of Oscar, Hazard, Marin and Moses we have signed potential. I've no doubt that they are going to have sparkling careers but this year is a season too soon for them.
I don't have too much of a problem with the defence but we've neglected the main area for concern - the centre of midfield. Frank's good at what Frank does but he's never one to 'Run' the midfield. Essien was always the powerhouse there with Maka behind.
Until we can start dominating the centre of the park again there's going to be a gap like the grand canyon between the defence and our young bucks!
Oh - two top quality strikers as well. I think wednesday showed many were wrong pinning their hopes on Ba!
All in good time Brummie.
We have bought some very good players, with excellent potential. In fact I would say this team we are forming with Mata, Oscar, Hazard, De Bruyne, Luiz and Lukaku is almost if not more exciting then the one we built in 03/04 season. The biggest failure has been Torres, and £50mill is a big chunk.
All that is required for us to do is to get the right manager in, and probably need a few squad players to add depth, with 2 or 3 mentally strong players...one in defence one in midfield and another one up top. Our transfers for this new generation is not over yet.
You also said this:
go from prime JT, Carvalho, Alex, Makelele, Essien,Ballack, prime Lampard, Drogba to Luiz, Ramires, mikel, Torres et al is unacceptable, again considering the money spent.
Which is what I meant.
This article is bluddy true , fantastic
Agree tht the midfield is cause for concern but we were blessed with talent like Makalele,Essien & Ballack in that department. How easy has it been for Man U to replace Roy Keane ? or Arsenal Patrick viera? Those type of players are at a premium. I cant think of any modern midfielders who are anywhere near the class of those 5. Sure some have potential but whether that is fulfilled remains to be seen.
Im not sure that all of our young players are quite as good as we believe.Think we have the foundations of a team that can compete but not sure about winning just yet.
I agree with the op, most of our new acquisition are overrated and at best green horns, we can't win sh..t with them, the only exceptions being moses, ba and mata, these are players who have shown that they can change the outcome of matches
Oscar and Hazard are going to be big players when they mature. I wasn't expecting much off them in their 1st season in the PL and I'm quite pleased with what I've seen of them so far, especially Oscar with his work rate.
We just need a good experienced CM to help everything to knit together - and we could do with that sooner rather than later!
