I would be very surprised if Holtby was left twiddling his thumbs on the bench, whilst the rest of the midfielders produce absolute rubbish on the pitch. Holtby has been bought in to play, not to make up the numbers. Last night was an introduction, expect him to be one of the first names on the team sheet from hereonin.

Holtby was only on the field 5 minutes & he looked by far our best player.

How did we line up when Siggy came on for Lennon? Did we go 4321 like Venables early England with Siggy slotting in with Dembele and Parker, and Holtby and Bale behind JD? Or with Siggy and Holtby swapped perhaps?

Providing he is fit i would be happy to start with him in place of Dempsey / Defoe

yes mate, parker basically played just in front of the centre halfs for the last 20 mins, both fb pushed us as the wingers, then had holtby in the centre with dembele and siggy either side of him quite narrow, then bale was pretty central and interchanged with holtby. I would love him to start sunday but just got a feeling avb might hold him back.

If he did that well in an otherwise bad performance he has to start v West Brom.

Do you think we'd be able to drop Parker and slot him in with Dembele? Perhaps Siggy instead of Dempsey to give a bit more protection and fluidity between the three?

Id be surprised if he played in a midfeild 2 especailly with dembele, if he plays i would expect him just to come in for dempsey, just think avb will stick with dempsey on sunday to start with. Id love to see him start though, just had a class about him straight away

I STAYED UP TO WATCH MATCH OF THE DAY JUST TO SEE BALES GOAL AND FELL ASLEEP JUST AS WE TOOK TO THE PITCH ,

AVB confirmed that the Holtby signing was a direct replacement for VDV not Sandro, i cannot se him playing in the CM role unless he is filling in, he will be played like yesterday, behind the lone forward, the way he brought pretty much everyplayer into the game after he came on suggests that it would be best to leave him to create the chances, not have him bogged down in a deeper role.

Indeed.
That will be another step the squad will have to make in order to progress.

Parker although not the best tackler is much better at tackling then Dembele, so i say keep them both at cm and drop Dempsey to the nbnch as another option, i think defoe would thrive on the balls played through to him from Holtby.

I'd love to see the stats for how many times Dempsey failed to control the ball and gave the ball away. Watched the game in the net and that's all he seemed to do.

As for Parker. Our front line is built on pace so when he gets the ball he holds onto it, stopping any pace attack. He then either does his signature spin or got caught in possession. We can't afford to continue to start so badly!
