How can you mention Berbatov and Dempsey in the same breath, the difference was about three million pound,in money, and talent unmeasurable, any half decent striker could play off Berbatov.
Just to play devil's advocate here, could it be that we don't have the cash to be throwing it around like Elton John?
Sure we've made some good cash from sales, but we invested part of that back into Dembele, Dempsey, Vert, Sig. Rumours the Modric payments are in installments - suggesting long-term planning from Levy. Again.
We all seem to sing DL's praises all year round, how pleased we are to have him leading and running our club. That is, right up until the end of January when we behave like David Beckham's kids in a toy shop for a week.
Shame on us. Everton don't have funds to be chucking around, the fans respect that, Moyes and the players get their heads down and keep challenging.
Why can't we do the same? We're in a good position, Holtby looks like a £15m player anyway (if that 20min glimpse is anything to go by) and he's gona provide the extra creativity we've missed at times. ANOTHER bargain for Levy.
We all know the stadium's underway - albeit with a very long time to go. But in building it, Levy is guaranteeing THFC will be challenging for years to come. When we're all old(er) and (even) grumpier, we should still enjoy watching our team challenging for honours because of decisions being made now.
We've just made a financial loss for the past year, even before making any of these purchases being suggested.
We also thought we might have an extra £20-30M+ available from a possible CL spot this year. Wasn't to be, so the purse strings naturally tighten.
We've always been the classy club. Let's maintain that tradition as fans and not get wrapped up in this panic-fuelled, chaos-fest of desparation that is the transfer window UNLESS THE DEAL MAKES FINANCIAL SENSE FOR SPURS.
Just to play devil's advocate...
<bast@rdlawyer>
Surely the £1.25m we spent on holtby wasn't the full amount we offered Porto?!

Don't be too sure... This is Levy we're talking about
groovy
We'd still have that striker issue. I mean Berbatov is good but past his peak. Defoe cannot be relied on to stay consistent so even with Berbatov I reckon he'd have his barren spell or spells.
I didn't want Berbatov at the time and I'll still stick with that.
Tommy Egg, agree with a lot of what you say but come on mate , two fecking strikers
Defoe a one trick pony whos good but has a lot of dry spells
Ade who seems not to give afeck now he has a contract
Berbatov was fantastic last night
Levy was never going to let him come back after the way he treated the club but what gets me is why dont we just say we are not buying instead of trying to con the fans with pathetic insulting bids that he knows will fail with hrs to go of the window

If we don't the funds as you possibly suggest then why the late bid? If we haven't got it we haven't got it, why pretend there's an intent to buy when it's not legit?
If he says falcao is too expensive at £45m and 150k a week then fair enough...
If he says cavani is too expensive at £35m and 120k a week then fair enough...
Is ba for £7m and 80k a week really too much? If so then what price does levy put on strikers bearing in mind he sold pav and crouch for about £9m each?
hy dont we just say we are not buying instead of trying to con the fans with pathetic insulting bids that he knows will fail with hrs to go of the window

Actually AVB has said all along we were not gonna sign a striker in this window...
If you all had listened to him and moved on with your lives (like I did ), you currently wouldn't be giving a fack...
Thank You, Spurs.
Great to see you are helping us out in our relegation battle.
Do you guys know anything about Simon Dawkins?
Tommy :
The sentiment is that the window to become a CL incumbent is now, and that if that window closes, it will be closed again for a very long time.
And everything based on that (speed at which new WHL could be paid off etc) is in the balance.
For some my age, we are happy to see a Spurs (bar the silverware) akin to the 80s again. But the climate has changed now. If the club cannot get a financial virtuous circle going, they won't be able to retain and purchase the talent needed to stay even in the PL top 5.
why did he bid tonight then
Adot - genuinely never heard of him and I'm a season ticket holder Sorry

Old habits die hard brother, old habits die hard
"why did he bid tonight then"
In the hope that a staged payment schedule could be made, rather than all the money upfront ??
Doo doos or look like modric are your best bet

Oh, no! Another young, inexperienced player from Lambert it is then.

If he was serious he'd have made a bid earlier. For someone who loves to negotiate our outgoing transfers he must have surely realised that they might not accept our initial bid and would need time to negotiate? Or does he work on a 'final offer' basis when bidding?
So have we sold townsend or is it a loan deal...
Would be disappointed if we've sold
hes beem with us since 2008, sent him away about 4 times, always iinjured and at 25 is not going to make it at a big club
Townsend is loan. Should've loaned him to us.

Maybe you didn't ask??

It is possible that the Damiao bid this time has been driven by however serious the Defoe injury is. If so, fair enough.
But remember, Internacional held ALL the cards today.
Levy is good, but not that good.
Well I'm asking now...
