I don't hate triple h, but think he would has done as well without being vince son in law.... no.he a very good performer and would have been a world champ with out being son in law.but the quested remains has he had a classic match that everyone stops and say's wow ???????

posted on 2/2/13

its true hhh has/had decent ability but pushed by daddy in law, not rocket science, the multiple title runs mean nothing

I was ready to (mildly) disagree with Hart on this but thinking about it, I honestly can't think of any great Triple H match that stands out in my mind. Some good ones, yes, but nothing that I'd really call a classic.

that seems the problem no one can think of a classic match for triple h

Overrated? Certainly. Never had a great match? I think he's had a few.

I think Hart can say nice things about Michaels because they both kinda came up the ranks together in the WWF.

But HHH was a douche to him AND was a bit overrated so Hart can't really respect him in the way he does Michaels.

Ludicrous comments by the Hitman and i'm a little disappointed in some of the comments on here too.

Triple H was fantastic long before his relationship with the owners daughter. He started off as Hunter Hearst Helmsley and then became Triple H and his character drew instant appeal as he eventually became intercontinental champ. I recall a 'classic' ladder match vs The Rock at Summerslam 98. Then we had the formation of D-generation X which was one of, if not the biggest stables in the history of the industry. Then we had the breakaway and he became a top singles competitor with Chyna at his side. His rise to the top of the business coincided with the rise of Rock and Austin. No average wrestler could have kept up with those two.

Triple H then became involved with Stephanie and people have said that every honour he has achieved since that point is all down to the fact that he was with the boss' daughter. Forget the fact that he had risen to the top long before that relationship.

The problem with Hitman is that for guys like himself, if you can't do a snapmare or arm drag then you're not considered a good wrestler. As for his comments about Punk... Well anyone who has followed Punks career from his early days knows that whilst he has improved he has never been a technically great wrestler. You only have to look at his hack job elbows from the top rope.

And also, i loved the Hitman but i agree with Flair when he said that the Hitman didn't boast a wide array of moves. A russian leg sweep, second rope elbow, sharpshooter... That was it.

Triple H had the running knee, the knee face smash, the pedigree so hardly a world apart in terms of syonymous moves.

To say that Triple Hs success is down to his relationship is hugely disrespectful given that he climbed that ladder long before and in actuality has probably been the main figure who puts people over.

Here is something for you all to digest - he has lost more main events post marriage than pre. He put over the likes of Cena and Lesnar and has done so for the business' sake. He also has a high rate of Wrestlemania defeats post his marriage with the boss' daughter.

Bret Hart was great but by God he is bitter. Read Flairs book and he tells it like it is.

Bret Harts book is great but 90% of it is 'i'm better than this guy, i was a superior wrestler' etc etc

Rant over

Absolutely agree with his core point, which will understandly get lost in translation due to the critic and the subject of the criticism. HHH is overrated in terms of his characters material records and reputation within the wrestling universe. He's also criminally underrated when it comes to the perception the former has on specific people, thinking he's a company made man and nothing else - which is b@llsh**.

He's never really been an innovator, 100% agree with him there, but very few wrestlers are true innovators by my definition of the word as an objective fan. Punk exposing the chasm sized elephant in an era devoid of identity or substance, that's innovative. Jericho coming back with a wave of vignettes only to play an entire fanbase like a recorder without even speaking, that's innovative. These are special cases, special kinds of performers which in no way waters down those who don't possess that particuplar nack. But then i've always looked at wrestling from a subjective world standpoint as apposed to an art form.

Although i'm SO GLAD someone else realises just how transparent his more recent matches have been, particuplarly that beyond overrated match against Taker at WM27, to say he's never had a great match in his career borders on delusional. Maybe he means he's never had a memorable match, which would only make him slightly less wrong (SS ladder match, RR street fight are two examples of memorable matches).

His three stages of hell match against Stone Cold was a classic in my eyes, as was the feud itself.

I hold his feuds with Michaels, Batista & Orton in very high regard. He may be a simplistic storyteller but he leaves very few stones unturned in a feud.
