Golden Generation attempt #2
sterling and wisdom from liverpool are quality young players aswell and jack robinson and luke shaw
Mexican did anyone watch the u21s game last night?
Centre backs and ball winning midfielder are the big concerns looking at that.
Take Rodwell out and put Jason Lowe in. Then you have your ball winning midfielder.
I think we'd need a bit more experience mixed in there somewhere too.
yeah suso, i saw bits and bobs, young ince was excellent, zaha was a bit inconsistent, showed moments of great skill but lacked a bit of end product, pretty much what we already knew about him, shelvey's miss but other than that he did well
Lots of England articles today.
GK: Hart, Butland, Forster
FB: Johnson, Walker, Cole, Baines, Gibbs
CB: Cahill, Smalling, Lescott, Jones, Caulker, Jagielka
CM: Gerrard, Carrick, Cleverley, Wilshere, Henderson, Osman
WNG: Young, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sterling, Milner, Ince/Zaha
ST: Rooney, Welbeck, Sturridge, Walcott, Defoe
If I had to go with a 30 then that would be it.
I think Glen Johnson should be in that squad before Richards, and Walker.
To be honest, I'd say only Germany have a better crop coming through. Having the players and the players doing something is a very different matter though.
Do you know what France, Spain ect have coming through? It's this kind of if prance that leads to the overconfidence going into tournaments.
But there is potential there, it's getting them to play together, mix in the experienced players who still have years left in them, and getting them to play football (not hoofball)
I wish we had 19 year old central midfielders like Paul Pogba.
Forwards = Welbeck-Sturridge-Rooney-Carroll-Walcott
--------------
Defoe, Crouch, Shearer and Lineker are all above Carroll in the pecking order.
Busby
Yes I know that France and Spain and co. have very good young players coming through. But I think the crop of talent we have compares with them pound for pound if you will. Germany are the nation with the stand out gems coming through for me. Don't be an arris.
i can tell every single one of you's that those players wont win a thing at international level. The quality and mentality is just not there.
I'm not sure, I think the mentality, at least from the United players, wont be in question. It's how well that can spread to the rest of the Arsenal/Liverpool players who haven't been brought up on the win at all costs mentality.

as a unit they wont have it tho.

So? Isn't playing well as a team, implementing a formation that allows them to keep the ball, and working their socks off not enough? I just want to see some attractive football from lads that look like they want to be there. Our younger players are talented and are more suited to the international game than their predecessors. They don't need to win anything. They just need to recapture the public imagination and make them care again. They also need a manager that isn't a tactical dinosaur.
It depends who comes out as a leader. We haven't had a strong CM captain for ages. I'd argue that the last decent captain we had for England was Beckham...
Who out of that crop look like a natural leader?

So a team like England who have won the world cup before don't need to win it anything to be successful.
Go and stand in the corner and think about what you have just said.
Are you sure you're not a Liverpool fan?
We won a tournament nearly 50 years ago. Every team since then has flattered to deceive. Our 'golden generation' which was full of bona fide stars - Owen, Beckham, Scholes, Rio, Campbell, Terry, Cole, Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard et al. - failed to deliver.
Can I ask, why are you expecting these lads to win anything? It's just setting yourself up for a fail. We are no longer a top team. We are behind Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Spain and even the likes of Colombia are playing football in a more progressive manner.
We need to play to the strengths of our younger players, lower the expectations and go into these tournaments allowing the players to go out and enjoy themselves. If they get beat by a better team then fair play. But as long as they've gone out, played some attractive stuff and worked their socks off then that's enough for me. I include United in that also.
Thankfully, I disagree with you. I think if we played the correct way and utilised the good players we have correctly, and also had a lot of luck, we could surprise a few people. Right now, for many reasons, I can't see that happening.
I never said i expected them to win anything. Actually i said they wouldn't.
However, if i was an england supporter i would expect them to do more than run around to keep me happy considering what league/clubs they play at.
Success will always be judged on winning something with regards to England, they have done it before so anything less is behind 1966.
You sound like an arsenal supporter in your comments. accepting good football over winning.
No I don't. I sound like somebody that doesn't have their head in the clouds. We play crap, boring football and have previously lauded kick and rush merchants which is laughed at on the continent. We played a player like Andy Carroll at the Euro's and played a midfield consisting of Scott Parker and James Milner. That is what needs to be changed before we even talk about winning tournaments.
The public need to be captured again. They need to like the players and want to watch them. The players need to feel supported. When this happens and expectations are lowered in terms of winning, only then can we think about going further.
If United were playing to the best they could and got beat, I would accept it and think "fair play". I think the same with England. Right now, I don't care whether they win or lose. Nobody does. That is wrong.
The younger players can definitely mix it up with the best. They just need the home support and a manager that allows them play the best they can. You'll find people will be less dissappointed when they lose as long as they feel positives can be taken from it.
Arsenal written all over it.
i think the golden generation met expectations. they didn't fail.
they neither underperformed nor over achieved. They got the results the quality of the side merited pretty much spot on.
