Why I don't want Billy to return

You lost me when you conveniently compared Billy's two top 6 finishes to clueless calderwoods top 6 finishes without acknowledging they were a league apart. Calderwood sunk like a stone hopelessly out of his depth in the championship and billy is an experienced winner at championship level, highest amount of mgr of the month awards at championship level alongside warnock!!

That's a very good post Redfor50yrs, and also sums up his time at Derby.

"He is a cheque manager with no interest with developing talent from within. In his first spell he scrapped the reserve team and never saw the academy teams play."

I think this gets to the heart of it. He has no interest in the long-term because he knows he won't be there in the long-term. Billy cares about BILLY. Sadly, many fans take similarly short-term views, and don't really care about the overall direction of the club if the first eleven are doing OK.

What you CAN be sure of, if Davies is appointed, is that soon he will have a section of the support complaining or protesting against the owners, and how they aren't backing him well enough.

Personally I don't like the man, there aren't many that do,but he gets results in this league. Should be interesting, seeing how the owners react when he starts, questioning there decisions.

that should be their decisions

Good read Redfor

I agree with all.
People slag me off on here because I don't like him as a person. He could well get us in the playoffs again and maybe get us promoted. He is far from the best around to do the job though.

If promoted he will struggle to keep us up.

I believe Fawaz should try and attract Adkins to our club. He is a lot more level headed and I believe would have made Southampton a stable premiership side.

Not fair to compare Calderwood's top 6 finishes with Billy's. But apart from that I tend to agree with this. He is a short term manager but he may well be the best man to get us out of this league. And that is the ultimate goal so right now I couldn't care less if he only managed us for 5 months and then left, if at the end we were a Prem team. I think the gap will be hard to close now without going on an amazing run. The teams above us will drop points. Even Cardiff look dodgy so it can be done. But the worry is we're not strong enough.

Len, I would say that Calderwood was floundering badly rather than sunk like a stone. But he did have to go when he did. I wouldn't want him back either. A decent number two perhaps.

Judgement of Billy's time at Forest depends whether you're a 'Glass half full' person, or 'Glass half empty'. Did he twice succeed by reaching the playoffs even though he wasn't supported by the owner? or Did he twice fail by not getting promoted when we had bigger and better squads than some teams that did?

Stop crying ffs. Really fecks me off when narrow minded fools av a dig at king Billy. Yes he has his flaws, but what manager doesnt? Also, people do learn from there mistakes you know. A cheque book manager? Look at his time at PNE then tell me that statement still applies. Just get behind the team if you like him or not, but if all people are gonna do is moan then the club is better off without you.

I'd never 'slag off' anybody who didn't want King Billy back. It's just a difference of opinion.

posted on 7/2/13

The poll on your own board showed only a third wanted him back; that's two-thirds that didn't, or 92% if you let Strett do the maths.

I'm happy to give him a go. I've always been ban in the middle when it comes to Billy, at least since he left. I think he gets a lot of unfair stick, but I also reckon a lot him overrate massively.

I'm not having all this stuff about the youth system. I'm not having ND spent millions on an academy, billy walked in and said shut that down and ND said ok. He didn't play youth but mainly because the kids we had at that time were rubbish. If you want a manager who'll lplay Newbold and Heath than that's up to you. I don't.

He wouldn't be my first choice but these are exceptional circumstances, maybe this is a bit of crazy move. Might work though

very true, and im all for hearing them but all the hate towards someone who moaned for money to get us promoted (as that was the target) is far to harsh. Trouble is a severe lack of harmony atm, something we have had had since BD left, and trust me its amazing what a good morale can do to a team of average players. People moan he doesnt use youth players, all i can say is does that get you a top 6 finish? NO, he did what he had to at that given time. People need to watch his interview on late kick off again, i feel he explains his methods and rants well, just people will always see him as the man who failed in the play offs twice, when to be fair we were punching well above our weight with a squad who were not a top 6 one. As for the swansea game it was 1 man who cost us and it wasnt BD. Some squads were worse but more than half the teams in the champ were better imo. Bet all these BD haters soon vanish if (when) we start winning games. One of the best feelings ive had as a Red is the pasting we gave Direby a whipping 5-2, and since BD left iv never felt the slightest bit confident in a win against them since, but if BD gets appointed dare i say i would feel very confident. (if he lasts that long!!!) Love him or hate him, he i sthe man to get us promoted, after all taht is the remit isnt it?

*that. Rant over lol, dont mean to offend anyone i just have a strong opinion, its one of my many flaws!! He just gets to much undeserved stick, if you dont fight your corner people walk all over you and all i ever seem to see is anti BD people. Who ever gets the job needs time and our FULL support. COYR. If BD gets the job i swear i am going to run naked down my road shouting the king is alive!!!!

I'll support the team. He is a good Championship manager. I've never said he wasn't. If he says the right things and we storm into the playoffs then I will acknowledge once again that he is a good manager.

I won't support him. I feel that my opinion has good reason to to be heard and once announced I will no doubt read 100's of welcome back Billy threads. I can take that but I won't be told what I have to accept.

It's a shame we have to have a manager that we don't all approve of

From where we are now, I don't think even David Pratt could get us relegated; but can we still make the top six? Yes BD might get us there, I think SOD might have got us there, AM? meh. But that is a very short term objective. I thought we had a long term plan. It is certainly what we need. Billy lasting 3-5 years? Excuse me while I phone my friends Scarlett Johanson and Charlize Theron to see if they fancy a three-way tonight.

Billy lasted 2.5 years under ND. Longer than most of his managers.

All this long term plan stuff does my head in a bit. You support your manager where you can, invest to level you can afford and try and improve year on year. That's what clubs do, it's what they've always done. It's not brain science. You don't need SoD and £15m investment every year for 5 years to be a good side. If billy can get something like the best out of what he has now, we'll be a good side.
