each to their own my friend. Never been that interested in international football so really doesnt mean much to me but i guess someone that actually supports their national team will see it similar to you or maybe see the World Cup above any trophy for their club side.
From a player perspective, Carra wanted to prolong his career with Liverpool, hence why he retired from Internationals coz Liverpool meant more to him. Sometimes you cant have both.
The world cup is the biggest trophy going, something that an entire nation can get behind. For me, it eclipses all club trophies, and is probably on par with the Champion's League.
I think the main reason people have fallen in to 'international football doesn't interest me' is because we've sucked at international football for so long, we haven't had a reason to get excited by it.
I completely understand why Carra retired from international football, it was the same with Giggs, they wanted to extend their club careers
For me its simple.. I love liverpool football club far more than i love England football so as a fan thats what id rather win...
why so many of us love Carra is he played professional football as a fan....
In your opinion Jay....
Alot of LFC fans would disagree. I guess there are probably a fair few fans of other teams (even your team Man U) who would prefer to see their team win a trophy over England
Most likely, but as I say, I don't rate things like FA/Capital One Cup as highly as international tournaments, but to each their own
You're right there Scouse, it was exactly the same with Gary Neville for us.
what a privilege it must be to play football like that... though it must also consume your life... hurts more!
I've heard from a couple of people he's already been lined up to join sky sports as a pundit.
Cara and Neville would be a great team both have in-depth knowledge of the game, are strong personalities, and are current in terms of their involvement in the game.
Might need to add a subtitle option to the red button for cara though

Oh god...they'll kill each other If he replaces Redknapp and can put his Liverpool bias aside, I think it'll be brilliant.
Retire the shirt I would say

It’s not just that.
I actually went last night, and the atmosphere was pants. (Don’t usually go, but there was a spare available, and a good chance to catch up with a couple of mates).
Lots of moaning, from people who seem convinced they understand the game better than the players.(“Why didn’t he do this, that, blah, blah, blah&rdquo. You get the impression it transmits to the players, too...they look terrified of making mistakes, so they all play within themselves.
No passion, no humour, no positivity. Dirge-like, humourless songs (Great Escape, national anthem, blah, blah, blah). Somebody behind us suggested it would be quite funny to sing “It’s just like watching Brazil”, but the suggestion made you realise that England fans never sing tongue-in-cheek songs like that. (unless it's about the world war 2).
I was sitting just above the Brazilians, and they livened it up a bit (both inside and outside the stadium), but otherwise it was just like a giant corporate event...food and drink seemed as important as the football.
Enjoyed catching up with my mates, but it was just...a bit soulless.
We've had that discussion multiple times on the United board Luis. Lots of pros, and cons to it.
I can see where you're coming from Kem. Nobody sings the player's songs and we're stuck with the bloody band, and tired stuff. But at the same time, it's much easier for United fans to make songs about Scousers for example, which get sung weekly, than to make songs to use against say, the French, who we'll play once or twice a decade.
Yeah songs like "it's never your fault", which is disgusting (and sung by every manc in the ground).
it's much easier for United fans to make songs about Scousers for example,

I don't even like stuff like that, tbh, I find songs and "banter" that snipe at the opposition a bit tedious anyway, usually (very occasionally there's some humour in itm and that's ok)
The place I least like sitting at Anfield is near the away fans, because you're pretty much guaranteed the same old boring guff .
But England fans could have songs that support the team, or are a bit more interesting than Eng-ur-land or God Save the Queen.
I agree the number 23 shirt should be retired. I don't see anyone being able to cope with the pressure of following Carragher.

That's just it Great, your players should aspire to be held in the same regard as those that have worn it previously.
In United's case, just look at the iconic number 7s we've had over the years, not including Valencia
I think it would be harder to retire the 7 shirt as its more of a popular number...the only one I can think of in that case is Maradonas number 10 shirt has been retired at Napoli...I think it should be retired as it has been so many years hes worn it and it just wouldn't be right on anyone else

Definitely think we should retire the number 23 now.
You can't retire the more common squad numbers but 23 is Carragher's number.
