Feeling optimistic then.

I really wish I could be I promise, but that was unexplainable how bad we were going forward.

Matter of interest...You scored a lot of goals last season, would some kind wendy statto break down the goals scored under Irvine's and Smeg's shifts...

I believe you but I still have this (maybe) blind faith that it's all going to get sorted shortly. I've been saying that since June, mind.

June ........ what year??

We were playing against a very strong and established premier league side full of international players and they never looked like scoring. Our back 5 (inc Weaver) looks superb and Megson has got to take massive praise for that. Would you prefer us to be scoring loads of goals (like under Irvine) and losing every week. Or, would you prefer us to be extremely solid at the back and not score as many.

We will be there or thereabouts at the end of this season and once it starts Madine and Morrison will score goals. We do need another striker or two and a winger in place of Sedgwick but at least he has sorted the fundamental problems out at the back.

Stop moaning and be positive.

......and David Prutton was absolutely outstanding. What a signing.

No moaning writing what i saw today. Everything positive about the defense, think I said something like that. Megson all the credit for that no arguements. But I stand by everything i said about us going forward ........ Useless. And not going to get any better.

We aren't useless going forwards. We are just lacking someone to play alongside Madine. He will get somebody in this week and you can stop panicking.

I think your outlook on life is quite clear from your handle on here. Defence was great, but there were positives going forward too. JJ ripped them apart several times, prutton got forward from midfield well, bennet put in some great balls and even sedge did his bit. We had some random trialist playing alongside a has-been. Two good strikers in and i'd be tipping us to go up.
The problem today was the personel in the business end of the team - not megson's outlook or tactics ( both of which were spot on).
What was expected playing against the likes of shawcross, woodgate, huth et al??

Got to second you're appraisal of Prutton Consilio..... was at the game too and I thought he stood out for us. If he can retain some consistency throughout the season then we've got a decent, committed midfielder there!

Completely agree that we looked weak upfront but at least we have something solid to build upon. Our back four seemed to control game well. It's not often you sit in the stand feeling THAT confident about our defence!

Solid performance against quality opposition. One week to get something sorted up front and we'll all be more optimistic.

Serious question - did madine touch the ball? I can't remember him doing, honestly.

I believe he set it on fire at the the final whistle...

i think today was full of positives imo, prutton was outstanding and i think semedo will be awesome for us and could be a legend in the making.
i honestly cant praise semedo enough.
megson has got us performing as a unit and that is what we need to get out of this league.
i must admit we didnt see much from the strikers but in fairness they were up against some quality out there.
im assuming jj was taken of as a precaution rather than that pullis put an offer in at half time .
we do need 2 more strikers but the ones we have will get goals this season

Kimmy and prof et al, good points. "Playing as a unit" is what we need to see. Football is a team game I don't care what anybody says it doesn't matter what players you've got if they can't play as a team. IF meggy has achieved that and IF we can be resilliant in the face of set backs then we will have a chance this year.

Kick em...Kick em hard...

posted on 30/7/11

You might laugh spartacus but I grew up playing football in Sheffield schools, football was a man's game in them days and a certain amount of kicking was expected.

You'll love Smeg...

I'm reserving judgement sparty but I do like to see a team play like a team. Kicking isn't a substitute for scoring goals, but you ain't going to get promoted out of L1 without having a bit of backbone!

BTW why aren't you out in Graves Park tonight?

Right then all of you that can’t read I shall try and say this simply. Everything about the defence and the defensive qualities of the midfield was the best I have seen in a long time and we didn’t’ look in any trouble today at all. We can have the best strikers in the world but without getting some sort of service to get given the ball they will not do anything. Our midfield including Prutton, Semedo and JOC (when he came on) all did a good job, as what has been said the back 9 looked like a unit. However the two up front stood no chance as there was nothing coming forward to give them anything in the way of service. As the title of the article says 46 nil nil draws. We just have nothing going forward at all. It is as if the midfield are 3 thousand miles away from connecting with the strike force. If anyone that went today didn’t see the same then I can’t see how, and I will gladly meet everyone for a beer and have a good old fashioned debate, my round first.

I genuinely love all this and disagreement is what it is for.

Thank you all,

Suffering - will it continue………. In the air at the moment but hope not.

Do the yoof still go in Graves Park? I though it was just the smack 'eds

Madine did touch the ball. He set up a chance for JOC just before the end.

Maybe GM would have more success finding a striker if he didn't insist that he will only have players whose names begin with M - Madine - Morrison - Modest. He has gone for Mellor & McDonald. Why won't he try players whose names begin with the other 25 letter of the alphabet?

posted on 31/7/11

Probably the same reason he's wasted 2 months chasing Mellor without any other irons in the fire..

Idiocy or Aspergers... I'd say the latter sums up Meggy!
