1 Year Contracts
Mills - little evidence to convince me he should be kept.
Andrews - as above.
Knight - bench warmer only
Sordell - too little evidence that he deserves a new contract. needs to prove he can do it for us consistently.
Eaves - one more year to convince.

2 Year Contracts
Bogdan - looks promising for the future.
Marcos - will be a great player. unfortunately, not for us.
Eagles - one of our best on his day.
Ngog - needs to play regularly or let him go.
Mark Davies - build a team around this guy and get a full-time 1-on-1 coach for him. could be a great player before long.
Holden - I'd gamble and give him 2 years even though I'm doubting he will return anywhere near the player he was.
Pratley - need regular starts or let him go.
Riley - throw him in the deep and later this season and let him prove he has it.
Lonegran - good reserve keeper.
Vela - could be a good one for next season. hopefully.
CYL - will hopefully be back to his old self next season.
Craig Davies - who knows?
Wheater - solid and reliable. need a brain next to him.
Kamara - no idea but I'd gamble again here providing he gets his fitness in order.

3 Year Contracts or more wouldn't exist under me while we're in the bottom half of the Championship and 135m in debt. I small another Pompey if things don't improve from the start of next season.

Agree with finlay on the idea of 3 year contracts. However I also don't like 2 year contracts that much as you're constantly in the situation of players being only a year away from being able to run their contract down and leave for nothing.

2 year contracts with the option for the club to extend it to a third if players perform/our position improves are the way to go.

Six goals in 8 games and you're not convinced?

posted on 17/2/13

The thing is TRR it is only 8 games. If he maintains a scoring record even close to that over, lets say, 30 games then thats consistent and we can say he is the real deal.

But we have all seen players who are flash in the pan and have a few good games maybe a good season or two but are then unable to maintain or even get close to that standard again.

Just look at Michael Ricketts, he scored 37 goals for us in 98 league appearances, which is not a bad record. Since leaving us he has played for 10 different clubs (all at a lower level) scoring 26 goals in 175 appearances! Which is shocking!

Andrews, Knight, K Davies and Ricketts I would release. Of the loanees maybe keep Spearing, and that would leave a younger squad to sign other players around

SKD & Knight would be gone. That would be addition by subtraction to me. The rest I pretty much agree with the above lists.

I maybe in the minority here but I'd keep SKD around, BUT it'd be on reduced terms as a player coach with extra add-ons for appearances.

We know he is doing his badges and that he bleeds for this club. Lets get him working with the youngster instilling the same professionalism and pride in the shirt in the next generation of Wanderers.

------------

Or put another way, 6 goals in over 12 months.

No. Not convinced he should be getting another contract based on that return. Not yet.
I understand there is the argument that he hasn't played for much of that time period but, whatever the reason, he isn't much use not playing, regardless of which manager it is leaving him out (3 so far).

I do hope he turns out to be a successful signing though. Eventually.

finlay, how many games has he played in the 12 months you quote.

For whatever reason he hasn't played, it think it might be fairer if you judge him on when he was picked to start in the team.

Not "real" debt so pompey sityation not gonna happen

SWIE, with all due respect, what you deem a fair appraisal of Sordell doesn't work for me. I'll judge him over a period that I see fit to form my own opinion.

For me, he hasn't played enough to earn another contract yet. I don't care whether he has been homesick, tweeting, fighting with coaches, sulking, not working hard enough in training, feigning injury or whatever has been the problem.
So far, I haven't seen enough evidence to throw him a big fat contract.

Like I said, I hope he does come good though and change my opinion.
