...and 100% of the India and Pakistan fans on this forum were born in England...

this kind of article always makes me smile because it betrays a lack of real knowledge or indeed information in its inception. For instance, Jade Dernbach - born in SA but actually holds an ITALIAN passport (some may ask what he has a contract for anyway!!) but moved to England when he was 14, Matt Prior - born in SA but moved to England when ELEVEN. Can you imagine Prior playing for SA? I think you would be kind of miffed if he had chosen them instead of England where he learnt all his cricket.
The fact is that England is a multi-cultural mix of different races, Nationalities and creeds. Get used to it. Its not going to change and its not a representation of some sort of bias. I remember a time when Chris Lewis, Gladstone Small and Devon Malcolm played for England. Were England accused of bias towards players born in the west indies then? No. Probably because then whoever levelled the accusation would be accused of racism

it is factually accurate though.
tbh, im aware that this topic has been discussed to death. it just surprised me when I saw the list how many sa born players there were.
8 is a lot.
My own view is that, similar to most things in life, there has to be a balance.
I respect Dr's point (Good luck today by the way). We are a multi-cultural society and should imbrace our imports. I would certainly like to see the continued rise in Asians playing cricket in the CC.
However, there are a few instances where it seems to be a bit annoying. Trott, for example is a born and bred Saffer. He doesn't have any link to England apart from his Mrs or having lived here a while.
Take my own situation. I am half Sri Lankan, however never visited the place. My heritage does give me a bond to that country that Trott can never understand.
In the case of the Prior's, Strauss's it's different - They have lived here most of their lives.
Even Pieterson has a parent from England, so that gives him the link in to England. It is half of his blood - Regardless of his Saffer voice or technique.
Not sure who the 8 are - I would guess... Trott, Prior, Dernbach, Kieswetter, Meaker, Pieterson...

Thanks mate.
All bar Trott gave a British parent I think?
The other point is most have been nurtured by our CC system.
Lumb has a Yorkshire youth player.
Even Morgan was nurtured by Middlesex.
my view on this has always been that players should play for the country in which they learned the game. it looks like this view is not too dissimilar to your own.
I agree that by this criteria, some of the 8 (or most of then), would qualify. It just struck me as odd though, that as many as 8 England cricketers were born in SA.
by the way yorkie, you should consider trying sri lanka some time. very nice country. I was there a couple of weeks ago.
I've been before. that time I went south from columbo to galle and neighbouring unawatunna. went along the south coast and then up into the hills to nurawellayella, and then down to kandy and andarapuhna (?)
this time I just went to unawatuna (and galle). it's a fantastic beach, and there's some good walking nearby. also went on a morning trip to see blue whales.
"Good luck today by the way"...

We were hammered Yorkie. Respect to Swansea though, played really well
This old crapp again.. if they were born under a rock. I wouldnt care aslong as they improve England and they have JEALOUSY
England - would you mind if all of the England players in the team were born in south Africa and brought up in south Africa, and all spoke with south African accents, and all had dutch names, or would that not be an issue ?
Wouldnt be an issue. If they wanted to represent England.
ok then. how about if the rules were relaxed, and anyone was allowed to play for anyone, and all the England players went off and played for india because they paid the highest salaries ? would that be an issue ?
If they wanted to do that.. they can go.I wouldnt want a player playing just for the money. Do you think thats what some of the SA born players have/are doing?.
Prior/Trott love seeing England win.
The question of following a country or being affiliated is a good debate.Take some of the Indian/Pakistani fans who have relatives who are from a subcontinent. They follow the nation of their fathers/grandfathers because they see it has part of the hertiage. Thats the same with some SA and Aus people when it comes to the mother country ie England and west-indian also... If any SA/Irish/ etc feel they are connected via their parents its fine by me. and that goes for anyone else wishing to play for another country. I just have issues when some people use their cricketing choices to have a go at their birth nation.. Follow any team by all means and feel something for them But donnt use it beat another over the head with it. Not suggesting anyone on here as. But the old 606 was rife with it.
I do get your point of views maybe the 8 in the 32 squad of players, are a bit much. But if they are seamed better quality than what can be chosen from.. Then i can understand why the ECB have gone down this route.. Its their job to get England to the top. I doubt any team would have turned down KP.
Not belittling Australia but their batting isnt great right now. If they could get their hands on batsmen that will score 100s and will help them win the ashes. Am sure they would chose them
