Having initially asked for £35m plus add-ons, Sheffield United are now prepared to accept a deal that will start with an initial fee of £24m. Ramsdale himself is thought to be eager to take the step up to the Premier League & has informed Sheff Utd of his desire. [

There remain significant details of Ramsdale’s move to Arsenal, such as the criteria & schedule of the proposed add-ons, to be decided. There is however now greater optimism on all sides that a final agreement can be reached. [

So, what did I miss? Any news?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle of the ITKs. AFCBell says Maddison is #1 target, and Ornstein says it's Ødegaard.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Neither will help tbh. We could sign Messi and Mbappe and we would still battle Leeds and Villa for top 8 finish.

Aye. Let's hope its Edu doing the buying or else when Arteta gets the sack next week, his successor will be lumbered with players he doesn't want.
Wow. Bell got it wrong. Ødegaard it is.

I understand that Bell said even if we get Odegaard, Maddison still could happen, Seebs?

No. It's either Ødegaard or Maddison, not both
Just guessing here, but perhaps Edu was pushing for Maddison and Arteta was pushing for Ødegaard.

I’d probably think the opposite. You’d think the DoF would be the one pushing for the cheaper option

I'm only speculating, of course, but everything I've read says Arteta was very hot on Ødegaard. Perhaps Edu was too and Maddison just proved too expensive.
Hopefully the Ødegaard deal is a loan with the option to buy. Could use the cash on other targets, plus I'm not convinced a new manager (should Arteta be sacked) would want an old fashioned #10
Just GK, CM, RB & CF to go
As if it's taken us this long to sort an AM though and it ended up being Odegaard anyway
Since Ode was already with us last season, have we really then improved in our starting XI in this window?
Plenty of people are taking the pi$$ out it but to some extent, they have a point.
£150M spent and still no that much better

Simple answer is no. BUT, we did significantly improve last season when Ødegaard was signed. Think we were the 3rd or 2nd best team in the league from when we signed Ødegaard.
We absolutely need more. More quality. But most of all we need more from Arteta. I'll echo your point, seems like the manager and his coaching/tactics is the only thing we need improving first.
Update: Martin Ødegaard’s transfer fee will be between €35M and €40M.
The current Norwegian transfer record is Sander Berge from Genk to Sheffield United for €25M.
Ødegaard will probably keep the record for a year until someone pays Erling Braut Haaland’s clause.

I personally don't think so.
Laca and Auba in decline
ESR and Saka have longer together and will hopefully improve together
Sambi could be an improvement on Xhaka but doubt he'll get picked much as a first XI player
For all his faults I think Luiz brings more to the team than White currently does
Already had Odegaard
Then we got a backup LB
We've just given ESR no.10. where do him and Odegaard play ffs, just seems like more shiiit squad buildung
That doesn't worry me, both will have time injured and can play together

They were not really that good together though, at least from memory. And it’s not like this coaching team is great at building partnerships.
This feels so unfair on Freddie as well. The guy was left to do an interim job without even been giving a coaching team, just for his successor to come, spend millions and not doing any better

No but they had only 6 months together, they'll get better. They can interchange between deeper and wider positions if they need to and it shouldn't be any bother
Leno
Luiz
Xhaka
Lacazette/Aubameyang
That’s the spine of the 2020/21 side.
We’ve only changed one segment of it this summer. Given that, the only thing likely to usher in any great change would’ve been to change either the manager, or at the very least, a number of last season’s coaching staff.
We’ve got a new set piece coach.
Having said that, I think people are underrating Odegaard’s contribution from January onwards. I agree it would’ve been great to get Aouar, if only to see something different. But then I still think replacing Xhaka would’ve been the most transformative thing we could’ve done with the playing staff.
Roll on 2026.
White, lokongo, Taveres, Odegaard, Ramsdale
Well over £100M spent and even then I can see there being huge improvements from last season
