Wenger's tactics tell anyone all you need to know.
'Express yourselves, lads'.
He treated Rvp, Cesc, Bendtner, Nasri, Song... etc as his sons. He has gone on record saying as much.
Whether people chose to remember or not now, one of the biggest criticisms about the squad back then was the perception (by the fans) that they needed 'pulling in to line'.
Now that we have someone that actually does this it's no longer what we need.
I'm not saying that Arteta has got everything right, or is a good man-manager (he's clearly isn't currently) but I find it laughable that he should not care whether the club captain turns up on time for training or on match days, or whether some jumped up French kid falls into line - having not done so at any of his previous clubs either (and still not done so in Germany or since being back in France).
As for AMN, I have no idea what has gone on there - as have none of you. After his immature Instagram outburst last week it looked like that was it for him. But already he's apparently back in the fold.
You know... perhaps lessons are being learnt.
I mean, let's hope so. Because if they're not, no one else is gonna be asked to swoop in and save us anytime soon by the looks of it.
How did Wenger ever become our greatest ever manager?
During the period being discussed, he was far from that.

How did Wenger ever become our greatest ever manager?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wasn't it Dein identifying and buying the players and Pat Rice and the coaching staff that made Wenger so good?
Besides, you only have to listen to the stories told by Adams, Dixon, Parlour etc to know the kind of manager Arsene was at Arsenal.
Much loved, and respected, but mainly due to the nature of the players that were around at the time, rather than because he was a ball buster.
It was the famous back 4 that he built his team on that held their teammates to account, more than Wenger did - Dixon holding Overmars by the throat in the dressing room at half-time because he wasn't helping out in defence being a good example of this.
Can you imagine 'Arsene WHO?!' Wenger walking in to Arsenal now, and dealing with Aubameyang, Guendouzi, Ozil etc and giving them the freedom to do what they want?

Pat Rice? Token?
I have always criticised the fact Dein was never replaced. And always stated that their partnership is responsible for the players he bought.
But I have never criticised his coaching, method of discipline or tactics apart from being frustrated that Mertesacker and Giroud should never play in the same team. And Wenger should have got rid when Giroud after his affair but obviously would have looked like a hypocrite to have done so. If anything I have always felt the players he was buying didn't suit his tactics.

Wenger haters.
What lengths are people going to defend Arteta?
So being honest about Wenger is now seen as defending Arteta?
Club captain throwing their armband on the floor, flipping off the fans and trying to get out of the club on more than one occasion is rewarded with a contract extension but if you turn up late for the team bus then public humiliation is in order.
Trying to destroy Wenger's legacy?
DJ you really think Pat Rice and the coaching staff that made Wenger so good?

What does it matter that Emery was sacked? Artitler is still fully aware of what Xhaka did.

Surely if either men were affronted by what Xhaka did it would be the guy that was here at the time (Edu) rather than the guy giving all the players a clean slate when he joined (Arteta)?
After all, as you said yourself: 'Reading the transcript of that interview, it seems Edu and Artitler are very much in this together.'
It was Freddie who brought Xhaka back into the team, if I remember correctly. Don't think it is fair to blame Arteta for not punishing Xhaka some time after an incident.
He clearly rates Xhaka, which is a totally different conversation to have.
As Lex oft says, there is enough to beat a man with without having to be so creative.

Poor thread leadership?
Wenger used to let players get away with quite a bit tbh. Remember Ramsey doing that soccer am thing and he said Wenger let ozil do anything
Also remember the time he "disciplined" Alexis by benching him Vs Liverpool, only to bring him on when we were losing. Bit pathetic, kind of summed up his last half decade or so as manager
Wenger too far one way, Arteta too far the other.
Doesn't have to be a case of picking sides and rewriting history
Played Ox against the team everyone knew he was about to sign for. He was utter rubbish of course.
Top bantz era Arsene, that.
Kinda puts the Xhaka contract extension after trying to leave into perspective really.

Indeed.
Anyhoo, had a chance to listen to Edu's interview. Apart from Edu looking seriously stressed, the only other bit I noted was Edu dismissing any targets this season.
Edu: “I don’t want to go for top four, top six, top eight or top 10. I’m just really looking forward to seeing this squad play together. I want to see our squad because I don’t see it yet. I believe & Mikel believes that this team can have a good season.”
Any hope I had that Arteta would be gone by Oct/Nov is over. Unless we're still in the relegation zone by the end of the Spurs game, I expect Arteta to see out the rest of this season, at least.
