I thought they are defending themselves because people said he should be suspended until it's cleared up.

I read that The Athletic put an article out saying something along those lines, and why the club in question had not reprimanded the player like what happened to Greenwood

Don't you have to be charged to be bailed?

The bit about of 'safeguarding' is a bit suspicious. I have never heard of that being used for an accused. Its usually used for a victim.

Any way we will know by Aug because the club/police will have to present to a judge whether he can stay on bail, be charged and so the terms of bail changed or the case should be dropped.

There are different types of police bail. Pre-charge and post charge.

Pre-charge usually means the police is investigating and the accused has to present for interviews etc. whenever the police want. Post charge is serious and so bail is usually conditional. (its whats i remember anyway, studied more than 20 years ago.)
