“ Liverpool, have been imploding like that against City, quite a lot in the last few years”

This is rewriting history

Liverpool were also 9 points ahead of Man City when they blew it in 2018/2019. With a far better team.

They finished the season with 98 points, 1 point behind City

I will give Arteta next season but these season ending collapses under pressure are unacceptable and can't happen next season.

Also, he needs to improve is in cup competitions.

We have been knocked out by so many average teams

We ended last season also in that bad shape and started the next well.

You exaggerate a bit

Seriously are you really comparing our implosion to pool lol

So what? It was 10 point turn around. The rest of the league was worse than it is now.

Arteta on not being able to take it to the final day:
When you come to April and May you need 24 players there, available, fit, playing at their best and ready to go. For many reasons we haven’t had that.

Hope you do it Arteta

Yes we have got cl football but it's all about how you end the season, crunch time and we have collapsed again

City had a game in hand and still had Liverpool to play at the Etihad. Very similar position to us. Liverpool lost to City, drew away to United and Everton and then went on a ridiculous winning run, something like 14 games, took it to the final day of the season and came 2nd with a record points tally. They also won the CL that season.

We all know what happened to Arsenal.

posted on 20/5/23

Liverpool still blew the league with a 9 point lead. That will not change.

Which is the point. If we had won all the games after Etihad and still lost the league, would the outcome have changed at all?

The bottom line is, Arsenal did not expect to be challenging for the title. They did. And should be celebrated.

No it’s not the point. You said that Liverpool have imploded against City quite often when it hasn’t happened once. I don’t have a problem with Arsenal not winning the league, but I have a problem with how we lost it. You can’t compare the situation to Liverpool’s no matter how much you try to spin it

Liverpool had a 9 point lead on City and lost the league. I think imploding is the right term for it.

This is two years in a row where we've blown it at the business end of the season. Arteta's done a lot of good things this season, but he has to find a way of ensuring we have a more ruthless mentality and don't buckle under pressure every time.

Our recruitment has to be absolutely spot on this Summer otherwise we will be challenging for a top-4 spot, instead of challenging for the league (and maybe the CL if we're lucky).

I am really disappointed that we will finish below 90 points though. That was the threshold I wanted us to meet even if it wasn't enough to win the title and we've not got close to that tally.

Really frustrating and horrid end to the season.

Also, we have to take the cups seriously. We have to find a way of competing on all fronts. Since the Covid FA Cup victory, our record in the cup competitions has been atrocious.

There's a lot of work we need to do in preparation for next season.

Said earlier in the season this reminds me of 07/08, and I had hoped we wouldnt be disappointed. But it's been the same really, just the bad patch happened at a different time.

We need to learn the lessons and not let our important players go. Hleb and Flamini left that year.

posted on 20/5/23

Agreed Samir. We should at the very least have reached 90 points.

We were in a terrible position financially as a club in 2008. In fact Spurs are in a similar position today to how we were back then.

Samir sums it up well. Not getting even close to 90 points is a massive let down

posted on 20/5/23

50 points from our first 19 games
31 points from our last 18 games - that form is not even good enough to finish 6th.

Everyone seems to ignore this point and give Arteta a free ride over the cup performances

posted on 20/5/23

Well it’s not like he doesn’t go full strength in cup competitions. Playing Saliba vs Lisbon basically cost us the title. No reason that we shouldn’t be in the talk for the CL next season. Just need to avoid City and Bayern

posted on 20/5/23

No one is ignoring going out of the cups. But it only strengthens the reasoning to why we lost the league. Which is a lack of strength in key areas of the pitch. We've made the jump to challenging for the title earlier than the squad can support.

People forget the past ffs. Every season brings another challenge. We playing in the CL next season. That is what we wanted.

We need to get the TW right

One thing this season has shown me is that Martinelli is our best attacking player.
