I don't know why people keep thinking playing Partey and Rice in midfield is so defensive and will stop us creating loads of chances. Odegaard will go further forward and we'll get the best out of him. He's dropped a little deeper with Havertz playing centre midfield. With Ben White and Zinchenko playing full back we will be better going forward. We will also have better protection and control in midfield. It's just down to us not making silly errors.
I think we'll score a minimum of 3 goals against Man United next weekend with this team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because you fail to take into account what the opposing team does. The reason why Pep's teams work so much better than Wenger was because it's easy to stop one creative midfielder like Odegaard with a holding midfield player. Then what do you do? If you channel all your play through that player, you can create a natural bottleneck. And when the play invariably breaks down in that bottleneck, you can easily be countered
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Guarantee we score a minimum of 3 goals against Man United next week if we play our proper back 4 and play a midfield trio of Rice, Partey and Odegaard. It's just a question though if can we keep a clean sheet?

I have been very impressed with Eddie though.
Should never have been dropped as the central striker.
Will be interesting to see who starts v united as jesus is back
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eddie has a knee injury, which is why I believe Trossard started. Eddie actually has a very good record at home.
It's all about fitness, but Jesus is the starter and Eddie is the cover.

Snooks we were finishing 8th without inverted full backs, and we haven't played that way for 2 years. What makes you think we'll go back to it? Of course, Arteta could start with Rice as one of the no.8's but as Utd will play a counter-attack (like all teams have done at the Emirates) I don't think we'll create much. I think you are paying utd too much respect.
We played that way last season. Xhaka pushed further uo and Rice will play the same way as Xhaka.

So you want a £105m DM to be shoehorned into an attacking role?
No, we did not! Arteta even gave us the formation in the Amazon documentary!

Xhaka was box to box midfielder for us as is Rice .Rice also got forward a lot against Palace and created a few great chances for us.
Well I think a MF of rice and havertz doesn't work defensively.
Yes the MF player next to Rice will need to do more higher up the field but he will also need to play a role defensively.
I can't see havertz or Vieira as viable options there just yet
Talking of Rice, he’s such a good player. He’s good a bit of Roy Keane about him in his style

Have any of the goals we conceded this season been the fault of Havertz or Rice?

For about 6 years, and highly criticised. It wasn't until last season that the defensive side was reduced that he started to perform. Rice, on the other hand, is best deeper. Being a DM doesn't mean you can't go forward, but playing Rice in the Xhaka role will greatly reduce his performance.

No but we see Partey coming into MF.
If we resort to a back 4 with white at Rb and Rice /havertz MF, I think that will leave us unbalanced as I don't trust havertz defensively

Zinchenko also comes into the midfield to help Rice. That's the whole point of an inverted full back. And it worked very well last season with Partey/Zinchenko.
It is really simple. Do you think Rice is a better DM than Partey?
Villa playing with the direct I miss actual at Arsenal.
Brings into question why other penalties weren't given, such as us against Newcastle last season, and Romero vs United this.

Partey is the emergency inverted full back solution. I really believe arteta was planning on using timber as an inverted RB that can separately cover CB injuries.
Zinchenko is coming back, so we can go back to a more familiar style of building play. But timbers acl means this guy has to facking stay fit, which he won't.
Lets see if we get anyone in this week. Maybe we can pull out a season loan deal.
