Our defenders anywhere near starting 11 quality right before the window ends are:
Zin
Gabriel
White
Saliba
Tomiyasu
Kiwior
Holding
We all expect holding gets sold, leaving us with SIX good players to cover 4 positions
Zinchenko and Tomi are both injury prone and Tomi is probably out for nearly a month for the Asia cup. So those two combined will probably miss at least a quarter of the season if we’re honest
Gabriel is for some reason not favour EF by the manager anymore so god knows what’s happening there or how it ends
Partey as a RB is logistically a joke because everyone and their uncle knows if he plays there often he’s going to break sooner or later. We ALL said with rice arriving it should allow us to rest and rotate partey more. Now apparently a better idea is moving him into another position where he has to do more intense sprints in a season where matches are going to be lasting longer than ever and injuries more likely
Saliba has only just recovered from a bad back injury and we are just hoping it doesn’t return
Kiwior I hope will be good but he’s barely played so it’s not clear yet
That literally leaves Ben white as the only defender we have who is established as physically robust, good enough and has backing of the manager
And the irony of it all Pedro is if we don’t sort this self inflicted lack of depth our sharpies it will be you rebelling in it as a good excuse for arteta if we don’t do so well this year due to a lack of defensive cover. You know it and we know it
We should’ve kept Tierney. This much is plainly obvious.
We have to replace holding if we sell him but time is running out and clearly arteta likes defenders who have a whole load of qualities which are above and beyond the usual sort, so it might not be cheap or easy to find said player especially so late in the window
Anyone in their right mind can see the red flags about our defensive cover right now. If we don’t address it and it costs us it should be a sackable defense because it’s so plainly obvious and the situation is completely self inflicted.

I think you have to include Partey, as he doesn't start in the best XI and Jorginho is about as well for that role. In terms of him breaking down, Zinchenko starts Partey doesn't, so a lot of rest.

But we definitely need one more in that group, and I am expecting a season long loan from Real or Barca to fill the gap!

Disagree about keeping Tierney, he simply doesn't fit. But we have to replace him with someone who does.

I also think it is a shame Arteta didn't bring Walters and Sousa into the first team during pre-season. Artetas reluctance to use academy players contributed to the downfall last season, and none are any closer to first team now.

Just seen Brighton signed Ansu Fati. Xavi said less than 2 weeks ago that he was the future of Barca and going nowhere

Someone told me that Guehi is still an option as well, despite us not selling Gabriel this window. But I would think that'd be only possible if he has a buy out clause similar to Olise.

If we have no intention of brining in another CB then we might as well keep holding
