I don't actually think Tomi is happy to be a backup, j99. I think he's been forced to accept that role due to his recurrent injury problems over the last 2.5 years.

When fit, he should play most of our matches ahead of Zinchenko (who I'm not a huge fan of and is also injury-prone), but neither of them can be relied on.

It's nuts how many injury-prone players we've had in the fullback positions. Zinchenko, Tomiyasu and Tierney all made of glass.

If someone said to me right now we'd get an offer of £40m+ for Tomi, I'd probably take it and reinvest it in someone else (Diomande maybe?).

Why would anyone offer £40m for an injury prone defender who we paid £16m for?

I don't think Tomi would be signing an extension if he was unhappy. And I think players like Zinny and Tomi are bench precisely because they can't take the intensity of a season.

On a separate point, I do think a lot of injuries are down to intense training of a Pep system. I believe Pep and now Arteta have a slightly lower level before Christmas and then step it up in the second half of the season when it comes to the most important runs. I think we were knackered by the second half of the season last year when we did not do that, and it cost us the title.

I think it explains a lot why Dubai trip was so important.
