it wasn't it was about 2 inches out side the quadrant.......but it was a laugh, referee making sure...
I'm sat near halfway in East Stand and after the first one (they had 3 or 4 in a row) everboby around me thought it was a wind up a had a good laugh. Varney did his job on the first one at the near post with a wonderful slice into the Kop.
henry was trying it on, putting the ball down so it was just touching the quad a fraction...we just thought we'd let the ref know...
To be honest, as a referee myself, you tend not to make a point of checking unless there is disagreement and only pull for the blatantly obvious ones that you don't really see. It only happened twice today but if the referee disagreed with the fans, which he only did once, both times then he'd have begun to just ignore them.
