It isn't like Arsenal are desperate to fill the seats, they can probably just fill it with someone who doesn't chuck fruit at no extra cost. So I can see their stance.

Was he disguised as a red seat ??

This is getting out of hand....................

I suppose some p.c rseole's going to object to the grenade I've got for Wilshere

Agree with the Admin1

I know it was in good humour and frankly, many spurs fans probably laughed too but you have to be PC these days and this doesn't bode well as an example to younger fans.

By the way, Police have a photo of the culprit, and they are a-peeling for him

posted on 4/3/13

That is pathetic if it happens but we are a soulless club now so it is no surprise.

careful harrys accountant, terrorist police are monitoring

Obviously this has caused a split opinion and Arsenal do not want to be seen slipping up.

The supporter will claim he had a skinful!

Bale himself has commented on the incident..

Ooh ooh aah aah..
Whatever that means....

Conley

Absolutely ridiculous to ban him. What's difference throwing a banana and lasering players or chucking coins at them when they take corner.

posted on 4/3/13

It's not a coin. It was premeditated comedy and I for one found it funny. It wasn't an aggressive act. I understand they can't be seen to encourage or not discourage throwing anything - but surely a fine would be sufficient. A lifetime ban for a joke is a horrendous punishment......never going to football again.......ever. Horrendous!

Colneygooner.

Are you telling us that a mere ape scored past the 'world class' Chesney yesterday?

Where are the bans for the west ham hissers??

posted on 4/3/13

No it wasn't a coin but what I'm saying is that fans throw coins and other things yet no ban.

I heard he was aiming for ade but has a bad shot.

Yeah I agree with you 50p

Ridiculous, in this situation (i.e. non racial) a coin is a massively worse offence than someone chucking a banana

Speaking after the game Bale was asked what he thought of Arsenal's chances of top 4?

Bale replied:

"The same way as I like my bananas, frittered"

posted on 4/3/13

But surely the point is you need a ban on fans throwing ANYTHING onto the pitch? I appreciate it was just a laugh, but you're getting into very grey and murky areas...

Banana's ok...what about a pineapple? Or a watermelon?? Or shedloads of bog roll?? (Whatever happened to that at Cup games??) Or you'll remember the famous beachball incident...

We should sing our songs and cheer on our teams til our throats are sore, but the players shouldn't be worrying about objects being chucked about full stop.

No?

It's the severity of the punishment that has riled me. Not that throwing a banana should be tolerated.

So many guys trying act clever with the quips on here.

posted on 5/3/13

It was funny I must admit but if he was not banned
then what message does that send to fans?
We might have people throwing bananas at Bale
every other game.
What if that Banana landed near a black player by accident?
In the end the Ban is justified.

It does not matter what is being thrown by the fans, it s the action that is banned & you cannot distinguish between a banana, a coin or a bottle.
There was a warning prior to the game that there would be zero tolerance on misconduct of any kind.

If the idiot gets himself banned from both WHL & The Emirates then it is his own stupid fault.

I agree with both flashyflibble & Admin1.

Yes it was just banter so lets not get carried away, but on the flipside it puts Arsenal FC in a bad light, and its not like they will miss this one fan will they?

And further more, this time it was a banana, next time it could be a coin or a stone - and as a football club its not worth taking the risk.
