I could not understand why we had bought him and just assumed the club must know something that I didn't.
I therefore convinced myself to forget my own views about signing him and to look forward to him scoring loads of goals for Chelsea

I thought " I bet he struggles. Will probably win the Champions League with Chelsea, but will never find any real form, and Chelsea will start to struggle in the league."
As a United fan I was pretty gutted. However, I take no pleasure in his complete failure to live up to his reputation and price tag. He was my favourite player in the world when he played for Atl. Madrid.

I didn't really take much notive of rumours. You might remember in the summer of '10 there were rumours of a £50m bid for Torres but it never really garnered attention. Even with the rumours in january I didn't think we'd actually do it, but as it came closer to completion I was heavily against the signing, always thought it was never going to work
<-- on signing
<-- this is where I am at now
because of the press as well there were quite a few old 606ers whom were calling for us to sign a man call Saurez from a Dutch football team.
i seem to remember his name being linked with us on a few occasions before and after the world cup.
I was gutted we didn't go for Aguero
For me he was miles better than Torres even back then.
It was clearly a stupid signing based on position and quality of the player at the time
Sure I expected him to be a 15-20 goal/season man but we desperately lacked creative players both on the wing and in midfield
And for that price there were better strikers around
It was only Jan 31st in the evening when I was less against the move. Not for any reason other than we weren't linked with anyone else and he was a big name so naturally it was quite exciting even tho I didn't expect a world class signing
Plus we'd already loaned Sturridge
initially...i thought it was brilliantly bold....if very expensive...
I am an excellent judge of this sort of thing
I didn't want Suarez, after his antics back in Holland when he was biting opponents and the World Cup handball fiasco with Essien still in the squad I thought off pitch problems with work against him. Definitely not a saint, but I'd admittedly take him now of course.
At the time I also wrongly assumed he was more of a poacher (his goal record in Holland was literally a goal a game in his best season) rather than the deeper second striker type player hs really is, due to our lack of creativity I would have wanted a more dynamic striker.
I was really excited when he signed, thought he was the missing piece of the puzzle, how wrong was I!
I was excited when we signed him, despite his last 6 months or so at Liverpool being a bit iffy.
Then I took my medication and he started actually "playing" for us and for a long while I was thinking that he would come good sometime, but I wasn't sure when.
I have now accepted our fate that he will never come good for us as long as he's got a hole in his harris.
Can't wait until he's gone and I am quite bitter that he helped cost the jobs of Ancellotti and Di Matteo.
unfortunately...we are at the whim of a madman....
fortunately....we are at he whim of a rich madman
Roman would make a good bond villain...
And he has plenty of p-ssy to stroke
ecstatic, thought we'd pulled off a coup. remember arguing with the likes of Brummie why we were better off going for him than for Aguero
................and plenty of people to drop into the pirhana fish pool. Which he does quite regularly (but not the right ones).
I was excited about it - I excused the poor 6 months at Liverpool as him being diillusioned because he had played brilliantly against us at Anfield that year - presumed that was him putting himself in the shop window.
I'm not sure anyone could have predicted things being this bad though..... could they?
What people often miss out is it wasn't even the quality of the player himself that made it a bad signing to me: at least that was less predictable
It was the decision to spend so much money on a position that was already quite strong, compared to the absolutely blatant lack of creativity in the team which got for some reason completely ignored. That just defies all logic
lol that's in my OP plus i harped on about it at the time on old 606.
I thought it was a great purchase even though he wasnt playing his best i thought he would come to Chelsea and get his form back though i did think we payed over the odds. I think the commentator in one of our games said Liverpool must of been laughing all the way to the bank then the other guy goes well the would have but then they bought Andy Carrol
yep...the two worst januaty window transfers ever...within ten minutes of each other...difficult to say which was worse really
