They're all "attackers"
Rafael for me!
Personally, I would go for Suarez. [It makes me sick to type this - Good thing I teach a lesson next, I can take my frustration out on picking on the poor Liverpool fan in my class]
RvP has been 'off his game' for a few games now, Bale has been exceptional for a few months, but was a level lower prior to that. Suarez has been probably the most consistent attacking player. Mata has largely looked good, though over Christmas, he look knackered. Rafael has been our player of the season IMO.
Suarez for me too
Its a close call between RVP and Suarez. They've both been consistent up until a few weeks ago. RVP's stopped scoring whist Suarez cant stop scoring. Would have given it to either one of them. Suarez has been on fire though in the last few weeks. Who knows, Suarez might hit some bad form and RVP might start banging them in. Tough to seperate the two.
Suarez.
Forget he is a nasty creature. He is truly a wonderful footballer.
"RvP has been 'off his game' for a few games"
You could apply that to any player during any point of the season
Also, don't let the Scousers see this, but, they aren't all that far away from 5th. 2 points away from Arsenal, who have a game in hand. Doesn't look likely that they will get 4th though.

-----------------
Irrelevent
The award is for a calander year not a season. Tis why the voting is done in Feb, not May
RVP should win it. Last season's golden boot winner and the best player up until xmas
Rooney. A goal or assist every game he's played
Not Suarez though Pride RvP started off like a rocket, and probably set his standards too high. He hasn't scored now in something like 6 games.
Fair point there Macca, up until Feb RvP was probably the best and should win it based on that.
He's a vile human being and probably wouldn't look out of place dead in a gutter somewhere... but he's a fantastic footballer.
Player of the year = De Gea
Suarez went on a 7 game run of not scoring nov/dec
Rooney. A goal or assist every game he's played
-----
Rooney has been just awful at times this season. Certainly not worthy of mention alongside the likes of Suarez, RvP, Tevez, Mata and Bale based on his performances this season. Can't remember him dominating a single game considering he's supposed to be world class.
still top scorer by some way though pride
Can't remember him dominating a single game

If that is true, touché
Rooney was quality in the manc derby ^^
For United's most improved this year, it is a hard call between De Gea and Rafael.
Macca have you got a link to verify whether it is for the calendar year?
From what I'm reading its for the season

This award is the one RVP won last year. Players player of the year.
He didn't dominate Man City. He may have scored 2 goals, but he didn't do much else. A lot of players played better than he did against City.
This season, Rooney has shown the deft touch of a rapist, the beautiful dribbling ability of someone with cerebral palsy and the pace of a sloth.
Yet he has something like 25 goals/assists in 27 games.
Not bad for a sloth...
Bale will win it... he hit form right around the time the votes are cast
Not bad at all. He's still a good player. Not world class, and certainly not POTY standard based on this season as someone implied, but a good player regardless.
Hasn't lived up to his early potential and seems to have passed his peak, but he's still been a good player for us.
