Does he mean metaphysically or somehow by tacet consent? Maybe he means that that truly philosophical question, "If you don't finish top in a league of 20 but you do not finish bottom, do you really lose?" One for those long winter evenings. Maybe the same philosophical outlook as Cantona and he's thinking about sardines and seagulls.
