"I'm not sure who's strikers are worse"

I bloody well am, Torres couldn't hit a cows ar53 with a shovel but when you think about it between the incredible sulk at our place and ad a barn door ours, there are two blokes who could be done under the trades description act strikers indeed

TBF, Torres came with the promise of being decent.
Adebayor came with far worse baggage (unjustified or not) .

Any Spurs fan would be extremely foolish to assume AVB will act in anything other than his best interests - and his previous in the game depicts a 'take the punt, see where it goes' individual.

I wouldn't expect him to seek out alternate options, Spurs is a good gig after all, but if they come to him he won't have any reservations about "ditching" you on a moments notice. Ask Porto fans for any clarification on that score

posted on 12/3/13

he wanted to go to a bigger league and had already achieved things with porto, its just he choose the wrong club first time round, hes going nowhere

Don't think he believed the Chelsky experience would go as it did (more fool him for not considering that possibility given the employer) . It will take a while IMHO to "rebuild his stock" .

So AVB should be at Spurs for another 2+ yrs (assuming he doesn't do an Arry) .

Weare, It's not just leaving Porto in the manner he did, it's the assurances he gave which royally burnt bridges there, all it took was an offer to be tabled and he never turned back - and bare in mind this is the club he'd supported since he was a boy.

But it's not an isolated incident, dating back even to the moment he slipped a tactics dossier under Bobby Robson's door as a teenager he's always been opportunistic. I'm merely saying don't delude yrself into believing he won't seize opportunities regardless if he'll eventually regret them.

Difference is, those opportunities will now be contingent on him doing some very good things with Spurs. Of which getting a CL slot this season ain't one.

^ very true

Wherever AVB goes after Spurs, he will be a far better manager because of that time. Going to Chelsky AFTER they had another title or won a CL would have probably seen Roman 100% give him the mandate needed to purge the old guard, regardless of the form in the 1st season.

Can't argue with that. Throwing an egocentric manager into an egocentric squad was rather stupid in hindsight - as with Jose's 04 appointment and yourselves at the moment, managers like AVB who rely on their tactical nous require a squad who match their own ambitions but fall behind their own experiences to assure they develop that rapport with the dressing room.

Funnily enough the only thing i don't regret about AVB was his sacking..... everything in-between from the timing of his appointment, not backing him once his appointment was made all the way to forcing him into this dictator type role in a futile attempt to combat our player power issues because of an unfocussed brief was dreadful. Made more frustrating by the knowledge that under different circumstance he could've very easily been Abramovich's elusive appointment (the one where the manager leaves before he was sacked/parted by mutual consent).

"managers like AVB who rely on their tactical nous require a squad who match their own ambitions but fall behind their own experiences to assure they develop that rapport with the dressing room."

We have been informed that were "communication" problems between team AVB and the squad during the first couple of weeks of the season. But any misunderstandings seem to have been resolved, and things have proceeded upwards from there.

The thing I like is the tone in the PL post match interviews.
Very much "on message" , and nothing contentious being said whatever the result.

You are only in the Europa by default!! By the way I was pleased you got a replay on Sunday, another game to fit in towards a hectic period!

One area of his management which must be improved is dealing with pressure. He's very eloquent and on point when things are going as planned (i could listen to him all day when he's content, the various dimensions of his dynamic arguments ), but he tends to exude fear as opposed to confidence during crisis.

It wouldn't surprise me if he related to failure strongly given he invested so much into his philosphies, but when he eventually returns to another intense pressure cooker club he MUST learn to be less transparent.

Anyway, full circling back to my original point. Don't harbor expectations of him to repay your gamble with loyalty down the road, but enjoy him why'll you have the pleasure. Good manager with boundless potential

"One area of his management which must be improved is dealing with pressure."

Well, as far as the PL goes, he has 2 months of that to go this season. He was ok during the Sep-Nov period when results were not great (and the media were waiting for their moment - 3 games to save his job etc) and his seemingly dogmatic subs policy.

His comments about you controlling the Emirates game is the kind of thing i'm talking about, along with generally being hostile with the press during that Sep-Nov period (i do keep you with his career, really like him). He lacks the charm of a Mourinho or the bluntness of a Benitez - he just gets wound up. He sort of reminds me of Ricky Gravis's character from The Office when he's feeling the heat, tries to smile his way through it but always ends up on the hook.

Of course as fans you'll naturally rejoice, i couldn't get enough of the figurative "slap in the face" he delivered after the Valencia win last season, but that one press conference in hindsight started a chain reaction which got the press on his back till he started picking up results with you. And in the case of our job didn't get him over much in our dressing room (which was the intention).
